Art Rascon to leave January 3, 2022

Art Rascon announced he was leaving abc13 KTRK by the end of year on September 30, 2021.  That same day, the station announced that his son, Jacob Rason was joining abc13 after leaving KPRC 2.

UPDATE JANUARY 3, 2022

Rascon recently gave us a Facebook update that tells us his last day will actually be Monday, January 3, 2022.  Plus, Jacob will not take this place on the channel 13 5pm newscast, Live at 5.

"Wow, how time flies by. One week from Monday I will look into the camera at ABC-TV for one last time.

36 years of reporting events of the world to a television audience will come to an end. What an incredible journey it has been!

I am so proud to pass the reins to my extremely capable and able son, Jacob.

He will not be anchoring the 5pm news, but you will see him reporting and anchoring other newscasts.

I’m happy for him. He has spent a lifetime being involved in this business—vicariously through me, and of course, paying his dues at a variety of stations, including the NBC Network as a correspondent.

We’ve even had the opportunity to report on stories together, which you will see more of next week. Enjoy the photos!"

Rascon's longtime co-anchor, Melanie Lawson also posted about the Rascon transition:

"It’s hard to believe this is really happening now. My partner of 23 years is retiring exactly one week from now, but leaving us with the next chapter of his legacy.

As Art Rascon prepares to say goodbye and his son (and clone) Jacob joins us, take a look back at some of the incredible photos he is sharing from his career - and what a career it has been!!

I’ll be sharing some of our behind the scenes moments, as we count down to his last day. We love you, Art, and I’m going to miss you like crazy!!

Rascon writes that he and Lawson have been a team longer, "than any other reporter/anchor team in the Houston television market." It's been 23.5 years for this anchor team.
