Marin Austin has joined FOX 7 KTBC Austin as a weekend anchor and reporter from CBS News where she worked as a national correspondent for Newspath.
Austin arrived in Austin last October when I was on a blogging break.
"I’m thrilled to live in this incredible, thriving and booming city," Austin tweeted. "'Marin Austin ... in Austin.' I’m trying to think of a great sign off. Any suggestions?"
Austin covering Austin sounds like a potential promo idea!
Prior to CBS News, Austin also worked as:
- a reporter for KNBC Los Angeles
- an anchor/reporter for FOX 40 KTXL Sacramento
- a commentator and contributor for BBC World News
- a multi-media reporter for San Diego NCN 16
The USC Annenberg School of Journalism grad and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism Masters holder got into the news biz as a investigative researcher for NBC Dateline, a production assistant for NBC Nightly News and as an investigative researcher for ABC News.
Outside of the television news business, Austin was a speedskater, with a spot on the US Short Track National Team.
"In 2004/2005, I placed sixth at the US Championships, and had the opportunity to move to Colorado Springs to train with the Olympic Team for the 2006 games," Austin told the Team USA website in 20165. "It wasn’t an easy decision to move away from home at 15. Nonetheless, dad and I decided (by listing the pros and cons) on the plane ride home from Cleveland that I must go. I think my experiences there helped me become more mentally tough for life – in fact, it made me who I am today."
