Fmr. FOX 26 meteorologist Lisa Vaughn joins University of Houston

Former FOX 26 KRIV meteorologist Lisa Vaughn leaves TV for the University of Houston

Remember FOX 26 KRIV meteorologist Lisa Vaughn? She left the FOX Television Station last April.

Now Vaughn lets us know she's joining the University of Houston in a joint faculty/staff position.

"I'm really stoked to be going back to my roots at U of H," Vaughn told mikemcguff.com. "I always thought I'd end up at a university again, because I've always wanted to give back to the newer generations in STEM."

The former TV meteorologist was always using her platform to promote science, technology, engineering and math.

Vaughn will be the program manager for the new Master's of Statistics and Data Science program which started last fall. She'll also be teaching undergraduate mathematics courses.

For those outside of Houston, you might be thinking it is an odd career path for a former TV staffer. For regular readers of my blog, it's probably not much of a surprise.

While many media outlets focused on Vaughn's hobby of designing her own clothes, I always wrote about her academic background:

Master's of Geosciences, Mississippi State University
Master's of Statistics, Rice University
BS Mathematics, University of Houston

"It is a unique position because it allows me to not only teach math, but I am also going to be managing the entire data science master's degree program," Vaughn added. "So, in a way, this position is bridging together each piece of my academic and professional background."

Vaughn will also be advising UH students and building connections with Houston-area corporations to place the students into internship programs.

SAY CONGRATS TO LISA VAUGHN
