Irika Sargent to Chicago's WBBM
Irika Sargent |
We've just had a funny post from KPRC, now for one that might have some channel 2 viewers angry. CBS' WFOR has just issued a release saying that KPRC 2 weekend anchor Irika Sargent is moving to Miami. The rumors out of Florida were indeed true.
Irika Sargent, an Emmy Award-winning journalist, will join the CBS4 team in May. She will partner with Rick Folbaum to co-anchor the station’s weekday early evening and 11 p.m. newscasts.
Sargent comes to CBS4 from KPRC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Houston, Texas, where she has worked as a weekend anchor and nightside reporter for the past three years.
Sargent has also worked at television stations in Mobile, Alabama, Columbia, Missouri and London, England. She has covered several major stories, including the BP oil spill along the Gulf Coast and the West, Texas plant explosion. Sargent has also covered numerous high-profile trials, drawing from her background as a lawyer. She also served as the anchor of a legal show when she worked in Alabama.
Sargent graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor of journalism degree. In addition, she earned a Juris Doctor degree from Cornell Law School because she wanted to gain legal insight and expertise that could assist her in reporting stories. Sargent practiced law for four years in New York City at the international law firm of Greenberg Traurig LLP, where she represented clients in New York federal and state courts, as well as before the New York Division of Human Rights and National Labor Relations Board. Additionally, Sargent set aside time to provide free legal services to non-profit groups and underserved communities. She is a current member of the New York Bar Association.
Throughout her career, Sargent has been involved with a number of charity organizations, including the American Cancer Society, Star of Hope Mission for Houston’s Homeless and Habitat for Humanity. She plans to continue her commitment to community service upon joining CBS4.
“We are excited to welcome Irika Sargent to CBS4,” said Adam Levy, Vice President and General Manager of WFOR/CBS4 and WBFS/myTV33. “Irika will be another key addition to the talented and experienced news team we have here and we look forward to having her partner with Rick, starting in May. We are also fortunate to have Cynthia Demos, a consummate pro who does a great job of handling every assignment that she is given, on our team. Cynthia has given us an experienced and steady hand at the anchor desk during our evening newscasts the past several months and we look forward to having her continue to be a key contributor to our success.”
WFOR-TV/CBS4 and WBFS/myTV33 are part of CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation.
