Ratings are perhaps the most deceiving statistic of any station. In some cases, the station that has been on the air the longest is number one because it is the first station people watched in TV's early days. In some markets one network is dominant and it trickles down to the local station. Stations in hyphenated markets (in which stations can be in different towns many miles apart) can often divide the audience geographically, especially if the market extends across two states. And in some cases, the audience just likes trash. (All you have to do is look at reality TV to support that statement.) READ THE REST
I agree with this. I was at a number 3 station in one market I worked in and we worked our asses off to get a good product on the air. As a small market reporter I had to turn one live shot and package for the 5 and another for the 6. Meanwhile the number 1 station simply had their reporters do vosots - maybe a live vosot once in a while. Some days their reporters didn't even have a story on the air. This station did however have an awesome set and production value. CONTACT: Leave me a Houston or Texas media news tip | COMMENT: Click to leave your thoughts on this post here
