Wow, this person hates Houston

Last week's Houston vs Dallas post got some interesting comments, but none are as interesting as a comment I recently received on an old post attached to the rivalry one.

Here is a recent comment on the Why do people hate Houston? post:

I lived in DC for 4 yrs and on occasion I saw crack heads and a lot of homeless that do not get in your space. I only saw one busted car window. Yes it’s humid but never humid AND 115 degrees. Downside you get a lot of sista attitude. In DC seemed that the only crack head was the mayor :)

In Houston the crack heads are everywhere you can’t get into your car without being harassed by them; there are more crack addicts than cockroaches. During my first weekend in Houston someone “borrowed” the wheels from four cars in the complex that I live in (and I am supposedly in the most expensive, fancy and safe building in the city). Every weekend someone “loses” their car or gets a busted window. The neighbor of one of my coworkers got shot in the parking lot of his complex in broad daylight; one woman got raped in the bus. Do I need to continue?

Some basic differences:

DC: Educated people, public transportation, free museums, well publicized things to do in the spring, summer and fall. Not so far away you have: the Nissan Pavilion, Wolf trap, etc. You can do safe bar hopping without worrying about how to get home. The traffic lights work. You can kayak in the Potomac, ski in PA, and white river raft in West VA. Also, if you are bored from DC you can get to NYC in less than four hrs, Baltimore in one, Philly in three. And the beaches in VA and MD are beautiful.

Houston: Very uneducated people. There is no public transportation. It’s the biggest suburb in the planet. The museums are expensive and suck. The things to do are hard to find or too far away. You can’t go out to have a drink without worrying how to get home. Traffic lights are always red, even when there are no cars around. If you are bored you drive for hours in any direction and what you get... vast nothingness, you are still in Texas and trying to get out. There is no recycling unless you take it yourself to the recycling center. If you ask for a paper bag instead of plastic bag they look at you like you told them: Hi, I am a pedophile!

Why people come here? Jobs and cheap housing.

Why do Houstonians think this is the best place on earth? They have never gone anywhere else

Wow, now there are some anger issues. CONTACT: Leave me a Houston or Texas media news tip | COMMENT: Click to leave your thoughts on this post here
