TV networks get creative with new show promotion

I learned about two unique ways the television networks are trying to promote the new Fall season TV shows.

First was how Showtime promoted a show called Dexter. If you work in downtown Houston or 13 other cities, you saw this Thursday:

This fountain is at Smith & Clay by the way. Here is more from the official press release:

Fourteen major cities across the U.S. will be participating in a unique, artistically inspired water exhibit dubbed “Dexter’s Red Fountains” on Thursday, September 27 in celebration of the second season premiere of Showtime Networks’ critically acclaimed original drama series, Dexter airing Sunday, September 30 at 9 PM ET/PT.

SHOWTIME and Pop2Life - Creative Marketing & Promotion are creating unforgettable scenes at landmark locations using existing or custom built fountains in each city. The water in the fountains will be dyed red and the site cordoned off with branded banner tape, touting the season premiere of Dexter.

I also saw this promotion for ABC's Desperate Housewives (full disclosure, I work at an ABC owned station):

This is a nail file with the show's logo. It's hard to read because this was taken with my camera phone, but it says,"Sharpen your claws, they're back September 30th." CONTACT: Leave me a Houston or Texas media news tip | COMMENT: Click to leave your thoughts on this post here
