Well we just got back from the long trek to a very crowded Woodlands Pavillion after seeing Godsmack, Rob Zombie and a part of Shinedown.
Shinedown seemed like a good live band. The lead singer went to the lawn to sing a song so he gets points for that. (See pictures from Saturday's San Antonio show)
Rob Zombie was on fire...at least enough of his stage exploded into flames. It was quite the show. He had an awesome set up with massive video screens of complete horror and two live (I use that term loosely in this case) dancing go-go girls. Former Marilyn Manson guitarist John 5 is in the band too. Zombie knows how to perform. For an alleged dead guy, he has lots of energy. He opened the show with the music from the Halloween franchise. Why? He's supposedly writing the next movie.
We've seen Godsmack three times now with Sunday night included in that number. Only half believe what Mike Daniel of The Dallas Morning News wrote about Friday's Dallas show. The quartet always put on a great show. I've seen them totally bury the Deftones live in 2001 at the Compaq Center. Tonight was a little different for the Boston boys. After watching Rob Zombie and crew command the audience, Godsmack just didn't seem to be as on as usual. They like to pack some psychedelic jams into their songs and I think the audience was a little bored at parts. Plus the stage seemed bare compared to Zombie's. But overall, Godsmack is one of the best touring bands today. As I've said before, I'd put drummer Shannon Larki in my ultimate group! He was one of the best parts of the show.
On an unrelated note, we saw new apartment construction right by the Pavillion. Who would want to live near that noise? Plus you have all of the crazy kids coming and going from shows late into the night. Also, if you plan to see a show there be warned. The parking closest to the Pavillion is now paid parking. Plan to be walking farther to your car.
