Jeff Ehling (the reporter I work with) and I have been trying to land an interview with Sen. Barbara Boxer of California all of last week. She was in Houston tonight so we thought we would get our chance. No such luck. We were sucker punched with a big fat "No!"
It all started after we saw that she was speaking about her new book at the Jewish Community Center book fair. This was our chance. We repeatedly called her offices in San Francisco and D.C. but members of her staff acted like they had no idea the Senator was even coming to Houston. They claimed they were passing our message to the right person. (I think the right person in this case was the garbage can). Needless to say, we never heard back.
So we showed up to the event with a photographer. We waited and waited. Finally got word there would be no interview.
I figured this would happen. Why would a Senator from California want to talk with us? She really has no reason unless we wanted to talk about her book. It's really her loss I guess. I mean who wouldn't want to talk to Jeff and me. We're fun guys!
