KHOU 11, Houston’s CBS affiliate, announced Tuesday that Pablo Alsina will join the KHOU 11 News Sports Team.

Alsina will be seen on-air beginning in mid-August, and will anchor weekday sports and KHOU 11 Sports Extra.

In his career, Alsina has covered a wide range of high-profile sports events – from MLB and two World Series to college football, international soccer and Ultimate Fighting Championships.

“Pablo connects with people—the athletes he’s covering and the audiences watching him. He clearly loves that human connection just as much as he loves sports. He has fun—and it shows,” said KHOU 11 Executive News Director Philip Bruce. “Plus, he can’t wait to start covering all the big-time sports in Houston.”

Alsina comes to Houston from Los Angeles, where he has worked as a bilingual anchor for Fox Deportes and other national and regional cable sports networks.

He has also been seen on the airwaves in a different capacity, with 20 national commercials and a stint on ABC’s General Hospital to his credit.

Alsina is a graduate of the University of Florida.

  2. If he's anchoring weekdays and Sports Extra, what's going to happen to Bob Allen? Are they letting him go?

  6. I thought Daniel Gotera was doing fine anchoring Sports Extra as the fill in host.

  7. I figured they would be looking for someone else to do weekdays and the Sports Extra as the Football season coming up and more. Daniel and Matt can't do it all.

Daniel filled in before they Got Bob. I hope he can come back before Year is out or some time next year but I do agree the Station had to do something.

Daniel and Matt have never been full time

But glad have someone that can step in

But do hope Bob will be back

    I do wish him well

  10. Former Media Executive Producer speaking here. Please advise Pablo that his on-camera personality is forced and over-the-top. For the viewer, it can come off fake and cartoonish. Remember Broadcasting 101, volume doesn't equal energy.

  11. Cannot watch - horrible voice and just too, too over the top & hammy. Hope Bob gets well & comes back really soon.

  12. Pablo has turned Sports Extra into a sideshow. What a joke he is. Daniel and Matt are so much more professional.

  13. I just can't take it. As soon as he comes on I change the channel.

  14. I cannot stand his high, screaming voice. It certainly isn't a good TV voice. We just changed the channel. He's irritating.

  15. Pablo Alsina has a unpleasant hoarseness to his voice, as if he always has laryngitis. KHOU news anchors Greg Hurst and Len Cannon have world class, broadcaster voices...Pablo Alsina is just unpleasant to listen to during the newscasts.

  16. His voice is like fingernails on chalkboard. Please get him some elocution training!

  17. KHOU needs to either get rid of this guy or transform him, his antics are so annoying! I can see how he might be engaging on the field in a post game interview with a player, but I don't like his animation on the news.

  18. KHOU - we have been long time Channel 11 viewers but we just can't listen to Pablo Alsina - his voice and delivery are awful - not professional and nothing to be proud of. You need to find a better person or you are going to permanently lose viewers as can be seen by all of these comments.

  19. I don't know who handles the hiring at KHOU but they botched this one with hiring Alsina. Have now switched to channel 2.
