Crystal Kobza returns to KTRK abc13

Crystal Kobza back reporting at abc13 KTRK after nine month or so absence

I've been receiving reports that former KTRK abc13 reporter Crystal Kobza has returned to the Disney/ABC owned station.

Last time Kobza showed up for a freelance gig at the station, my email and social media accounts were filled up with viewers wanting to know more about her. Those mega-Kobza fans put the reporter on the 12th spot of my most viewed blog posts for 2012.

History is clearly repeating itself.

To put this in context, those high trafficked posts usually consist of news about Dominique Sachse, Jennifer Reyna, Casey Curry or news about a longtime anchor leaving (not about a new hire generally).

With that kind of channel 13 viewer star power, I'm wondering if Kobza will eventually be sitting behind a Houston anchor desk. In fact, some have told me she reminds them of the second coming of Shara Fryer.

Before working as a reporter in a temporary capacity at KTRK abc13 for around eight months in 2012, Kobza was briefly an anchor for KOB Eyewitness News 4 Albuquerque. She started her TV career in Tyler at KETK as a reporter - eventually anchoring for Fox 51 News East Texas KFXK, Fox 44 KWKT Waco/Kileen/Temple and Fox 33 Shreveport Ark-La-Tex KMSS.

Kobza graduated from University of St. Thomas in Houston in 2005. She interned at Fox 26 KRIV and KPRC 2.

Now, Kobza won't be the only new face showing up to channel 13 this fall. There are lots of KTRK abc13 reporters and anchors pregnant so more temps will have to fill the spaces as maternity leaves are taken. If you see new reporters or anchors popping up - email me.

  1. There's one reason she's popular. Look at her.
Use it if you have it.

  2. TV managers realize telegenic people get viewers. Wow, who would have thought?

    1. If the TV manager at KTRK was smart, he would have kept her and dropped the Indian chick.

  3. I love how people say they like natural beauties, but they always seem to think the ones that wear makeup and dye their hair are the best looking and get all the jobs. Are they liars, or just fools that believe everything they see?

  4. It would be a shame if they had her out in the heat on news stories, I'd rather see her behind a desk where it's nice and cool.

  5. I want to get my news from someone who actually knows the news not someone reading it from a teleprompter and one who cannot pronounce the names of streets in Houston incorrectly. Crystal seems to have a brain buried under those blond locks. Give her a shot.

  6. Second coming of Shara Fryer? Will Crystal eventually end up at 740 KTRH radio?

  7. Glad to see Kobza back at KTRK Ch. 13.

The next Shara Fryer ? She might have to do the afternoon newscasts (replacing Melanie Lawson at Live @ Five when Lawson retires).

  8. She's abc13's weapon against KPRC's Jennifer and KHOU's Chita, if you're talking about attracting viewers based on attractiveness.

  9. Did Kobza go to Katy High School? I seem to remember a All-everything volleyball player named Cheryl Kobza that must have graduated from there around 1990 or 1991. Just curious....because Crystal totally looks like her. The resemblance and name can't be a coincidence. The looks definitely run in the family -- Cheryl was a knockout in HS wearing those bun-huggers on the court.

  10. Glad to see Chrystal back at KTRK. If this is 13's response in the face race against their rivals, I declare KTRK the winner.
