VIDEO: KTRK 13 reporter Carlos Aguilar tackles suspect

The story behind the classic clip

Just the other day when I blogged about Seattle KOMO reporter Shomari Stone breaking up a fight, I tried to tie in a Houston event from years before. That story was about KTRK 13 reporter Carlos Aguilar trying to shoot a stand up in the field, but ending up chasing down a suspect running from Houston police.

Turns out I got it wrong.

After my post, that video magically appeared online. It's actually the first time I've ever seen it first-hand (only hearing about it before). That video, which took place somewhere between 1985 and 1990, actually had Aguilar confronting a wanted man on camera. When the suspect flees, Aguilar chases and tackles him. Aguilar then holds the man for police. WATCH ABOVE

Check out the anchor! It's current KTRK 13 assistant news director Don Kobos (and former KTRK reporter). The reporter on the story was Stephen Gauvain (1946 - 1996).

  1. That's so much more "winning". than standing around in high water watching the good ol Houston floods and not really reporting.... That was awesome
