Calvin Murphy leaves 97.5 KFNC show and other sports radio news

David Barron tells us that Calvin Murphy is out of his show at 97.5 KFNC, but will remain at the station:

Calvin Murphy Autographed Signed November 16 1970 Sports Illustrated Magazine Professionally Matted Cover 11 X 14 Size Ready To Frame
Murphy, who hosted the show with KFNC program director Dave Tepper and Julie Takahashi, joined KFNC in July 2007. KFNC rarely polled above 1 percent of the listening audience for men 25-54 in afternoon drive and was generally in fourth place among the four Houston sports stations.
With Murphy’s departure, Fred Faour and Matt Dean now will host from 1 to 4 p.m. Carl Dukes will host solo from 4 to 5 p.m. and with Tepper and Takahashi from 5 to 7 p.m. READ MORE

Speaking of sports radio, Barron also notes that we're seeing changes in the morning ratings of Houston's four sports talkers.

- More changes at 790 KBME
- 610 KILT's Matt Jackson and Adam Wexler are new 790 KBME morning show
- John Lopez leaves 790 KBME The Sports Animal, joins 610 KILT mornings

  1. I think the problem with the Calvin Murphy show was not Calvin Murphy it was his co hosts Julie T. and Dave Tepper. They really did not compliment him well and possibly were allowed too much talk time on the show.

  2. I agree, I heard thru the grape vine------that there was a show on the table for KFNC that would have suited Calvin better---prior to The Calvin Murphy Show going on the air in 2007.
The show was a Reality Sports/Ent. program with Calvin and Real Sports Fan--"Barry D." The working title of the show was, "Calvin & ME!" and was also planned to be Video taped as an Internet TV show along with the Live Radio broadcast.
The sidekick Fan, "Barry D.", was the Creator of the show---he previously, Co-Created the first ever Sports Ent. Reality TV show--"The Sport Jerks", with Danny DeVito.
I think, that show would have worked better and not have been your usual Star and co-hosts chatting.
My understanding is, there was a deal being ironed out by the station and then they pulled it and placed Calvin on air with the co-host attached.
