Candace Burns, the missing KPRC 2 Houston 4 p.m. anchor/reporter, announced on December 27, 2024, that she is leaving the station. I am updating this post with the new information.
Many of you have asked about her whereabouts since she hadn't been on air in months.
Here is what Burns posted on social:
"I’ve been overwhelmed by the kind messages asking where I’ve been. After much thought and reflection, I’ve decided not to return to KPRC.
Serving this community has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Thank you for trusting me to share stories that matter. I put my heart, passion, and integrity into every report, always striving to reflect the strength and resilience of the incredible people I had the privilege of meeting. I hope you felt that dedication in every story.
I’m excited for what’s next and deeply grateful for every moment spent in your homes through the screen. Thank you for your unwavering support, love, and encouragement. It has meant more than words can express.
With love and gratitude,
Candace Burns"
Burns had only been a 4 p.m. anchor at KPRC 2 Houston since 2023, but she must have made a good impression. When Burns stopped appearing on air, her loyal viewers noticed. That's why they started asking about her daily.
I asked KPRC about her status but did not hear back.
So that's why I wrote this "Where is?" post, this time featuring Candace Burns.
Burns joined KPRC in 2023 from WTVR CBS 6 Richmond, Virginia, where she had been an evening anchor since 2014. A month later, she was named Lisa Hernandez's 4 p.m. newscast co-anchor.
In November 2024, Burns won her first Lone Star EMMY for a documentary about Fleming Middle School in Fifth Ward. In it, she documented the impact of the first year of the HISD state takeover.
A Channel 13 reporter will be out for a spell, but we know the reason. Another KTRK reporter also left at the end of December.
