Jonathan Thomas is leaving his weekend sports anchor role with KXAN Austin.
Here is what Thomas posted on X:
"I'm leaving the tv business but I had a blast working with everyone at the station and I could not have selected a better group of people to work with.
Everyone at KXAN was helpful, nice, and overall awesome to work with...I'm so glad I got the chance to spend the last 5 years with y'all (and that goes for those who don't work there anymore either haha)
I never took it for granted."
Thomas announced on air that he would be a video journalist with the City of Austin.
He came to Austin as a sports reporter/anchor in 2019 after spending four years at the Nexstar Media Group sister station as the KLST San Angelo sports director.
In January 2022, he was promoted to weekend sports anchor.
Before Austin, Thomas worked as a sports anchor for KWES Midland-Odessa and KSAN San Angelo.
The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University was a sports anchor for the school's Cronkite Newswatch. He interned with KTVT 3 Phoenix, Arizona.
Here's an example of the awesomeness they bestow upon me each day (like that sentence @noah_gross27 ?). Also, to my fellow sports colleagues, it's been great working w/you and I wish everyone nothing but the best. Fin. 3/3 pic.twitter.com/xuk1LO2w7c
