KENS 5 has announced veteran news anchor Deborah Knapp and reporter Sue Calberg have extended their contracts with the San Antonio station.

Six KSAT San Antonio journalists leaving

Knapp has been with the CBS station for 37 years and Calberg for 22 years.

“It’s important to us to have a newsroom filled with local expertise. Deborah and Sue know San Antonio like no one else, having spent most of their lives here. They have a strong passion for our community and fight to bring important local stories to our viewers each and every day,” said Jack Acosta, news director for KENS 5.

“I’m thrilled to continue serving the people of San Antonio,” said Knapp. “This is the city I grew up in and the station I’ve worked at most of my adult life. I am so fortunate to work with a wonderfully talented team I love and respect. Management at KENS 5 let me know I’m welcome to stay as long as I’d like and in today’s world, that’s a blessing.”

Calberg added, “There are so many stories left to tell and I’m excited to extend my long career with the station I love. KENS 5 puts their money where their mouth is. We really are San Antonio’s Own.”

Calberg grew up on the city’s east side and has worked as a journalist in her hometown for the past 44 years. Knapp, a graduate of MacArthur High School, grew up on the northeast side and has been inducted into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame. She serves as Treasurer on the Alamo Colleges Foundation Board and Chairs Las Misiones which restores and preserves our historic San Antonio Missions.

“We’re happy that Deborah and Sue have decided to continue here at KENS 5. They are both strong leaders for our newsroom and share our commitment to serving our community with their hometown perspective,” said Tom Cury, President and General Manager for KENS 5.

Knapp anchors the station’s 5 p.m. news while Calberg can be seen weekdays on the station’s newscasts and streaming service, KENS 5 +.
