KSAT12 San Antonio lets us know that at the end of this week, the station is canceling its 4:30am to 5am newscast.
That following Monday, October 9, 2023, ABC’s "America This Morning" will air.
From then on, "Good Morning San Antonio" will shorten its hours to 5am to 7am.
"This allows for more immediate news gathering on the stories that matter to you and your family, the moment you wake up – and at a time that works best for you," KSAT Creative Services Director Nate Mills said in a statement.
This follows moves by Graham Media Group Houston sister station KPRC when it dumped its 4:30am news in January of this year.
As I said in that post, does this mean television viewers aren't waking up early enough for the morning commute to justify that 4:30am newscast? Is this a wider societal trend? Oh, wait this is the Mike McGuff blog, we aren't that intellectual to answer such questions. I'm just waiting to write about an anchor getting engaged or tying the knot.
If KPRC is the barometer of the Texas Graham stations, then could KSAT be adding news later?
