Keith Monahan to retire from KARK 4 Little Rock

Keith Monahan announced his retirement from his chief meteorologist position at KARK 4 Little Rock, Arkansas.

Here is what the former CW39 Houston KIAH chief meteorologist posted on Facebook:

"I'm announcing my retirement effective on April 5--it was planned several months ago. I want to thank you, our viewers, who trusted me over the years to bring you the very best and most accurate weather coverage I could. And thanks to all of you who sent me well wishes over the past couple of weeks during a very difficult time in my life. Arkansas is a big state full of small cities and your hospitality is second to none. Thank you for letting me into your homes over the past 11 years."

His last day on the air will be April 5, 2023.

Earlier this month, Monahan experienced a stroke while live on-air during a KARK newscast.

"Keith has been a KARK staple for more than a decade. His accurate forecasts have been something KARK viewers could always count on, but it is his sense of humor and endless pranks behind the scenes that his KARK family will miss the most," KARK 4 News Director Ernie Paulson said on the station's website. "I wish Keith nothing but sunny days ahead. We’re going to miss you, Chief Keith!"

Monahan moved to KARK in October 2011 after CW39 dumped traditional news for the NewsFix format.

A United States Air Force Academy grad, "Chief Keith" also worked for:

- KDLT Sioux Falls, South Dakota

- WOOD Grand Rapids, Michigan

- KGWN Cheyenne, Wyoming

(Thanks Taylor!)
