This week, the entertainment trades have featured news that NBC owned and operated station veteran staffers around the country are accepting “voluntary early retirement” buyouts. Now we know there is a Texas connection, too.
UPDATE JANUARY 2023
Tony Canales to helm KXAS and KXTX DFW
While legendary Dallas - Fort Worth media reporter Ed "Uncle Barky" Bark might not be blogging anymore, he is still tweeting and breaking news concerning buyouts at NBC 5 KXAS.
A number of older staffers at DFW's NBC5 have opted to take buyouts. The include dogged "Night Ranger" Scott Gordon, a consummate pavement pounder who kept answering the bell & continually scooped the competition. Veteran & honorable GM Tom Ehlmann also has decided to cash out.

I did some checking on my own and sure enough, this is the case (and of course, Uncle Barky is always right).
Scott Gordon
Scott Gordon joined NBC 5 DFW KXAS as a reporter way back in 1994.
He previously worked for:
- KTUL ABC 8 Tulsa, Oklahoma
- KAMR Local 4 News Amarillo
- KSNF Joplin, Missouri
The Cum Laude from the University of Missouri has numerous awards including an Associated Press award for investigative reporting.
Thomas Ehlmann
NBC5 KXAS and Telemundo39 KXTX President and General Manager Thomas Ehlmann joined the NBC owned North Texas television station August 11, 2008 from WGN Chicago.
Under Ehlmann's leadership, KXAS was the Lone Star EMMY overall Station Excellence winner many times through his tenure. He was honored with the Texas Association of Broadcasters (TAB) Broadcaster of the Year Award in 2014.
One big initiative that happened under Ehlmann's watch was the construction of a new state-of-the-art broadcasting and multimedia news facility for NBC 5.
Ehlmann was previously the GM and VP of KHWB 39 Houston (now CW39 KIAH) from 1998 to 2004. Before that he was channel 39's Director of Sales.
The University of Arizona grad also worked for:
CBS Sacramento KOVR Sacramento, California
KDNL ABC 30 St. Louis, Missouri
KZAZ (now KMSB FOX 11) Tucson, Arizona
