Marvin Hurst returns to the KENS 5 San Antonio weekday morning newscasts as its 4:30am anchor and 6am news reporter from weekend morning anchoring duties.
“The AM show is a part of my DNA, and I am super blessed to have this opportunity to wake up with south Texas again," Hurst said in a statement.
Hurst has handed the fork and knife over to Lexi Hazlett who will now handle the popular KENS San Antonio segment “Neighborhood Eats.” However, even with his new anchor duties, Hurst will continue to produce “Kids Who Make San Antonio Great" which airs Monday during the morning newscast. He will also continue to work on KENS initiative “Together We Rise” exploring diversity and inclusion in South Texas.
“Marvin is a talented journalist who cares deeply about this city,” KENS 5 news director Jack Acosta said. “He pushes himself to tell great stories that reflect our community and explore the issues facing the people of South Texas. It’s great getting to work with him.”
Hurst joined KENS 5 in December 2004 as a morning reporter.
Before that he was Communications Director in the Office of Youth Development or the State of Louisiana.
Prior to his government work, it was all TV news for Hurst:
- Freelance Reporter WGNO ABC26 New Orleans, LA
- Reporter WBRZ 2 Baton Rouge, LA
- Reporter KALB 5 Alexandria, LA
The Grambling State University grad has earned numerous Lone Star EMMY awards for his work and recently the new Texas Broadcast News Award (formerly Texas Association of Broadcasters award) for feature reporting.
Recently Hurst was a featured speaker at the "Conquering Cancer in Every Color" luncheon where he shares his story of twice beating the disease.
