Jonathan Bruce joins abc13 KTRK

Jonathan Bruce, AKA Jon Wiener, joins abc13 KTRK as a digital anchor from KKTV 11 News Colorado Springs, CO where he was in the same position since 2020.

UPDATE: After I posted this originally, KTRK announced he is now going by Jonathan Bruce instead of Jon Wiener, which I first blogged.  I would guess Wiener is given name, since he's been using it for everything up until now.

There aren't a lot of people at abc13 left from the old days to remember the old Weiner's clothing store that closed its doors in 2001 after 75 years of business in the Houston-area. But when I saw Wiener's hiring (spelled differently), this was the first thing I thought of as a native Houstonian.

Wiener is also VP and Executive Producer of Bash Brothers Media, a production company he founded with his brother, Henry, in 2016. Through Bash Brothers Media, the Wiener brothers produce regionally televised documentaries, short films and online shows.

In addition to media productions, Wiener has also hosted for The NFHS Network which streams "Live and On Demand high school sports."

Wiener was also a radio show host at ESPN 105.9 FM The Zone WRKS Pickens, Mississippi and a sports writer for the Jackson Free Press.

He got his start in broadcasting as a sports reporter for FOX 40 News WDBD Jackson, Mississippi.

The Jackson, Miss. native is a Trinity University grad with a master's degree in broadcast journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.

* Updated from the original post that stated Jon Wiener was being hired at abc13 KTRK from KKTV 11 because his new name at channel 13 is Jonathan Bruce.
