Jillian Fertig is leaving her morning Anchor/Producer at KFDM 6 News and FOX4 Beaumont KBTV.
Here is part of what Fertig posted on Facebook:
"In my time here, I’ve literally done just about every job in the newsroom...from producing, reporting, special assignments and even filling in to forecast weather...opportunities I’ll always be grateful to have had. But like so many things, the TV news industry is changing, so it’s time for me to make a change as well.
10 years ago, I was a journalist fresh out of college and hungry to make a difference. Some of you on this page have been following me since then and your encouragement and support have meant the world. Although it’s hard to walk away from what was once your calling, I’m proud of my career and what I accomplished as a journalist. "
Fertig is getting out of the broadcast news biz for the public relations world with CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System. She is also getting married.
"It’s never easy to say goodbye to co-workers, but it’s especially hard when that person has been at your side thru thick and thin for almost 5 years," co-anchor Dan Gresham posted to Facebook. "Today marks Jillian Leigh Fertig’s final day on the Morning Show. She has been everything you could want in a workmate...hardworking, considerate and rock steady no matter what the situation. I will miss her greatly and look forward to seeing what the next chapter in life has in store for her!"
"I am SO PROUD to call you a best friend and l can't wait to see how much you enjoy life outside of news," former KFDM reporter Kelsey Borza posted to Facebook. "We went through happy, sad, scary, exciting, hilarious and downright frustrating times together under this roof and I'm so glad we came out with a lifelong friendship. Time to take a leap of faith into a brand new chapter."
Fertig joined the KFDM/Fox 4 "Morning Show" in 2017.
She previously worked for KFOX 14 EL Paso as a reporter/fill-in anchor/weather anchor. Before that she was a 5pm co-anchor for ABC 17 News KMIZ in Columbia, Missouri.
The Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University grad is originally from Midlothian, Texas.
Fun fact, Fertig is a USPA-licensed skydiver with more than 60 jumps!
