Mireya Villarreal joins ABC News

Mireya Villarreal joins ABC News from CBS News where she has been a correspondent on the CBS Evening News, CBS This Morning and CBSN.

"Mireya comes to us from CBS News, where she was a West Coast correspondent for four years, covering 13 states, including Alaska and Hawaii, and a Southern-based correspondent in Texas," wrote ABC News president Kim Godwin in a staff memo.  "She has reported on a wide range of stories, including the recent Texas weather crisis, COVID-19 vaccination efforts across the South and immigration along the border. Mireya was the first network journalist to investigate and report on sexual harassment allegations at Fort Hood in the disappearance and murder of Vanessa Guillen."

The native Texan worked her way through the local Texas television markets in her eventual network television journey.

Villarreal joined CBS News from CBS owned and operated CBS 11 KTVT in Dallas - Fort Worth where she worked as an investigative reporter for almost three years.

Before the DFW Metroplex, Villarreal was also an investigative reporter for News 4 San Antonio WOAI for four years

Prior to the Alamo City, Villarreal was a reporter for KRGV 5 Rio Grande Valley.

Villarreal's TV start was with KGNS Laredo as a weekend anchor/reporter.

The University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg grad was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley.

"Mireya is a smart and skilled journalist with roots grounded in powerful storytelling of diverse issues that impact communities of color," Godwin added.  "She will add instrumental value to ABC News’ coverage of this region in America joining Marcus Moore and the team in Texas along with colleagues across the news division."
