Allan Gwyn leaves NewsChannel 10 KFDA

Allan Gwyn has left NewsChannel 10 KFDA Amarillo where I believe he was a meteorologist since around 2008 (and before that previously too).

"It’s not going to be the same without you Allan Gwyn Kfda-Tv," KFDA reporter Sydnee Batzlaff posted on Facebook.  "You will be dearly missed & will always be a part of the NewsChannel10 family. Wishing you the best wherever life takes you!"

"We are going to miss you a lot Allan, definitely a BIG loss for the company," Telemundo Amarillo KEYU 31's Nuvia Martinez posted to Facebook.  "I am very proud of you and very grateful for everything you teach me about the weather, I know that wherever you go you will do very well, because you are an excellent human being.  God Bless You Friend!!"

Gwyn was born and raised in Amarillo where he started storm chasing at age 16 in the Texas Panhandle.

"My earliest memories are of severe weather in Amarillo and every time a storm would come up, I was out on the front porch looking at it, trying to find a tornado," Gwyn once wrote in his KFDA bio.

After following severe weather from Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas to New Mexico since 1980, Gwyn amassed a weather video collection of almost 200 tornado occurrences.  His videos appeared everywhere from the Weather Channel, the Discovery Channel all the way to the networks.

The Canyon High School grad, who attended West Texas State University, joined KFDA as a news photog/severe weather chaser in 1992 or 1993.

From 1994 to 1998, Gwyn moved across the street to KAMR as a news photographer.

In 1998, he returned to KFDA as the chief news photographer.

Gwyn completed the three year Broadcast Meteorology Program from Mississippi State University in August 2000.

On July 1, 2002, Gwyn made the jump to on-air broadcast meteorologist with the StormTrack 10 team and "Doppler" Dave Oliver.

From 2007 to 2008, Gwyn worked at KFDA's then Drewry Communications Group sister-station KXXV 25 in Waco, Temple and Killen as the Central Texas station's morning meteorologist.

It appears Gwyn returned to KFDA after KXXV.

"When the opportunity arose to come back to my home town, join the NewsChannel 10 Storm Track Weather Team, and continue my career serving the people of the panhandles, I couldn't have been happier," Gwyn wrote in his bio.  "This is the best place in the world to work and live, we have the nicest people and some of the most challenging weather on the planet. Who could ask for more?"

(Thanks John)
