Steven Romo, abc13 KTRK weekend morning anchor/reporter, is leaving the ABC Owned Television Station this Friday for The Big Apple.
Romo tweeted Monday night, that would be his last anchoring for channel 13, the rest of the week he will be working the morning shift.
UPDATE OCTOBER 2021
Steven Romo joins NBC News
Now, his departure is no surprise because Romo announced he is following his fiance, former FOX 26 KRIV meteorologist Stephen Morgan, to the New York area.
When he first hit the Houston airwaves, I wondered if Romo was related to then Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. Romo recently told me the answer is no.
Romo, the newscaster, joined abc13 in July 2016 from KJRH Tulsa, Oklahoma. In Tulsa, Romo started as the weekend morning anchor, moved to weekend evenings and then to the weekday 5pm newscasts.
Before crossing the Red River, Romo had a very Texas television news career:
Main anchor - KAGS Bryan-College Station
Anchor/MMJ - KKZTV Corpus Christi
Anchor/reporter/producer - KFDX/KAUZ Wichita Falls
The Dallas native attended Texas A&M University.
Interesting fact, Romo's grandmother was in Dealey Plaza the fateful day President John F. Kennedy was killed. She also worked as a seamstress for JFK assassination filmmaker Abraham Zapruder.
