Wes Rapaport, Texas Capitol Correspondent in the Nexstar Austin Bureau, is leaving the TV news biz to work for the Texas Division of Emergency Management as a Media and Communications Officer.
"For as long as I can remember, I’ve set out to help people," Rapaport tweeted. "Looking forward to continuing pursuit of my goal to share stories. Thrilled to share I’ve joined @TDEM as Media & Communications Officer. Excited for this next chapter of aiding Texans prepare for & respond to disasters."
Since 2017, the award-winning journalist covered the Texas Legislature in Austin for 14 stations in Texas according to his bio.
Prior to Austin, Rapaport worked as a reporter/MMJ at KAMC Lubbock for two years.
The Chapman University grad interned with NBC Nightly News. This was not his introduction to broadcasting though. Rapaport also worked as a camera operator for sporting and civic events in California.
