John Engel, KXAN Austin political reporter, announced he is leaving the Nexstar Media Group station after a little more than a year.
"Surprise! Today was my last at KXAN," Engel tweeted. "We’re heading to North Carolina so that my wife can pursue an amazing, new opportunity — I’m really proud of her. Thanks for letting me into this crazy world of Texas politics for a bit."
Engel announced he was joining KXAN in April 2020 from WCYB Johnson City, TN where he worked for two years.
Previously he worked in radio as a news anchor at News 104.5 WOKV-FM Jacksonville, FL and ESPN 730 Boise, ID.
He is a graduate of Boise State University.
KXAN Austin has had lots of job movements lately. In May, weekend anchor/investigative reporter Erin Cargile left followed by evening news anchor Sydney Benter.
CBS 4 Denver KCNC morning and noon anchor Britt Moreno debuted as the KXAN Austin evening news anchor in June.
