Audrey Castoreno gives birth to baby

Audrey Castoreno, KENS 5 San Antonio morning anchor, gave birth to baby Aurora early in October while I was on my blogging break.

The station reported that Aurora was born weighing four pounds and ten ounces.

"We're so happy to have Aurora and to be able to spend that quality time with her was so important for us because we were in the NICU with her for 25 days," Castoreno said on KENS morning newscast when she returned to work in January. "She came a little early."

As I had blogged before, the baby's original due date was November.

Castoreno says Aurora is starting to laugh and smile.

"And it's it's so cute just to see those little changes," Castoreno noted. "And definitely, you know, half my heart's at home with her and my husband (Brian Atkinson), but I am so happy to be back. It feels like this is my second home."

The native Houstonian told her San Antonio morning viewers that her water broke while she was at the station and it seemed like something that happens in the movies.

Co-anchor Barry Davis joked on the newscast that he tried talking Castoreno into letting him deliver baby "Rory" but she thought that might have been "a little weird!"

Prior to KENS San Antonio, Castoreno worked for KWES Midland/Odessa and KAVU Victoria.

The award-winning TV journalist interned at FOX 26 KRIV while studying at Sam Houston State University.
