Alberto Romero returns to FOX 4 KDFW after bad accident

After bad March car accident, FOX 4 KDFW Dallas meteorologist Alberto Romero returns to work

FOX 4 KDFW meteorologist Alberto Romero has returned to work after breaking both ankles in a March car accident.

"I'm glad to be able to contribute to the weather department once again because there was a time there where I felt so, so, so...it was A. hopeless and and also like I just felt useless," Romero said in a Facebook Live. "I felt worthless. I was just sitting there."

The two-time combat veteran who participated in Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), says his left ankle has been "good to go since probably June" thanks to a knee scooter.

But his right ankle took the brunt of the impact and was shattered. After being cleared to put weight on the injured ankle in a boot, he says it swelled up and was painful. A CT scan revealed he needed a bone stimulator session and experienced improvement.

However, Romero fell off his knee scooter a few weeks ago and aggravated the injury.

"Initially there was talk about a second surgery, but that has been put in the back pocket for now," he added. "A few years down the road, I'm going to require an ankle fusion on my right foot."

His goal is to drive by September.

Thanks to the pandemic, Romero can heal and work from home like many other TV newscasters are doing anyway. There is even a new special on air light in his new home studio.

Rombero told his fans that he dropped off social media for a while this summer to work on healing.

"It was nice," he admitted. "It was very, very nice. It makes me look forward to retirement. I'll tell you that."

Romero joined FOX 4 KDFW in 2018 from KYTX Tyler. He previously worked at Texas Cable News in Dallas.
