Two Texans selected for Television Academy Foundation’s Fellowship Program

Auringer and Qureshi

Two young women from Texas, Nicole Auringer and Mariam Qureshi, have been selected for the prestigious Television Academy Foundation’s Summer Fellowship Program.

The Foundation’s annual Internship Program normally provides 50 paid internships at top Hollywood studios and production companies to college students nationwide. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Television Academy Foundation has had to re-imagine its internship program this year offering the 50 students selected from across the country the chance to either intern remotely or enroll as a summer fellow. Two of the selected fellows are from Texas.

Nicole Auringer of Rockwall, Texas, is a 2020 Texas State University graduate. She majored in sound recording technology and minored in film and will be a sound fellow. Auringer attended Rockwall-Heath High School.

“Music led me to the world of audio engineering; and for a while, I thought that I would be a studio engineer,” said Auringer. “But then I toured a post-production studio in Austin, Texas, called TBD Post. I had never thought about sound for television and film before. So, I added a film minor, applied my audio engineering knowledge to it and never looked back.”

Mariam Qureshi of Fort Worth, Texas, is a 2020 graduate of the University of North Texas. She majored in media arts and will be a television program planning fellow this summer. Qureshi attended Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club, Texas.

“Growing up as both a first-generation American and college student, the idea of entering the television industry felt daunting, as I did not have the vast connections or learning experiences that many others have,” said Qureshi. “Throughout my time in college, while both working and attending school full time, I have been dreaming and working toward a future in television but unsure about how to achieve my first step into the industry. I am incredibly grateful for this fellowship, which is a prestigious and coveted opportunity to learn from successful professionals in an industry I am passionate about.”

The Summer Fellows Program includes virtual one-on-one visits with professionals in a student’s field of study, online panels with leaders in the television industry, and customized seminars covering personal brand building and navigating the job market ahead. Fellows also become lifelong members of the Foundation’s alumni family giving them access to events and networking opportunities as they build their careers in the industry.

The program includes a series of professional development webinars for students with top industry professionals including writer/director Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Old Guard); Amazon Studios executives Albert Cheng, chief operating officer and co-head of television, and Vernon Sanders, co-head of television; and the executive producer of the Apple TV+ series Little Voice Sara Bareilles and series star Brittany O’Grady.
