The Brooks Garner baby is here
KHOU 11 meteorologist Brooks Garner and his wife, Erica, are having an actual baby gift this Christmas
KHOU 11 noon and 4pm meteorologist Brooks Garner and his wife, Erica, are having a baby in time for the holidays!
"Erica and I are absolutely thrilled and feel so lucky and thankful," Garner told mikemcguff.com. "With a Christmas baby on the way it really will be, 'the most wonderful time of the year' (to quote the famous Andy Williams holiday classic)!"
Garner says Erica's friends and work colleagues had their suspicions beforehand, so it's fun to finally be able to share the big news.
"Friends have teased us about having a baby and the prospect of getting very little sleep (with midnight diaper changes and feedings), but we laugh and remind them that both of us have worked in TV news and know how to operate on all cylinders at all hours, for months on end," Garner added.
And Garner might be able to head to the hospital on delivery day cruising on his skateboard as you can see in the above embedded video.
"It’s how I got around Boston in my college days, but I’ve been doing it since I was 9," Garner told me. "For me, it was faster than public transit and more fun than walking. As unfortunate as it was to lose our Allen Parkway studios in the Harvey floods, a perk of being in these temporary studios at UH is that you can’t help but pick up on the fun, energetic vibes of a college campus. That excitement is not only translating into our newscasts, but I found that it was only natural for me to dust off the long board as a way to get across campus to grab lunch."
And the new University of Houston student union building has plenty of food options. I walked in there after all of the construction and was impressed by the new complex.
Garner is also excited about the move to KHOU 11's new 5718 Westheimer building and channel 11's soon to be open George R. Brown Convention Center AKA The GRB venida Houston district satellite studio.
"My skateboard video was just one very modest example of how KHOU is really breaking through the mold of an industry which largely has stood behind the glittery walls of smoke, mirrors, establishment and emptiness," Garner added. "We want to make local news more relevant for our time, and have opened our arms wide to offer a new generation a voice, in hopes they join the conversation — one which can affect real change in a community — and one which allows folks to participate in our hard-fought democracy in a way they might not otherwise be able without a free press. It all starts with KHOU being real and sharing our passion and ourselves."
TELL BROOKS AND ERICA CONGRATULATIONS!
