A very emotional moment happened on Dallas-Fort Worth television last night involving WFAA 8 sports anchor Dale Hansen and his friend who died in the Vietnam War.
Colin Kimball is an artist who has been using his skills to recreate the portraits of Collin County's casualties of war. So far, he has produced 54 portraits for the Collin County Courthouse.
On Tuesday's 10pm news, Kimball presented Hansen with a portrait of his best friend, Carroll Rodney Meier, who was killed May 28, 1968.
Hansen immediately teared up upon viewing the portrait.
"I'm not over [Meier's death] yet," a shaken Hansen said on air.
The legendary sportscaster took the time to tell the audience more about his childhood friend.
"He was in that country for six weeks and someone shot him right between the eyes," Hansen recalled. "And Carol Meier will be 18 years old forever and I have never forgotten that young man."
Anchor Cynthia Izaguirre added that it will be 50 years since Meier's death this Memorial Day.
