When KTRK abc13 Stretch Your Dollar morning anchor Patricia Lopez left the station late last year, the Disney ABC Television Group wasted no time in searching for a replacement.
Now the San Antonio Express News is reporting that the gig is going to KENS 5 traffic anchor Chelsey Hernandez.
“Working for KENS 5 over the last three years has been filled with endless opportunities and so many blessings. San Antonians and everyone in the viewing area are like family and it’s going to be bittersweet saying goodbye to a city I’ve called home for seven years,” Hernandez said in the emailed release to the newspaper.
Hernandez joined the KENS 5 team in April 2015. According to her bio, Hernandez was the first and only evening traffic anchor in the San Antonio market.
Prior to San Antonio, Hernandez worked as a morning anchor/producer at the KAVU Newscenter 25 in Victoria, TX.
Besides anchoring at KAVU, Hernandez also worked as a general assignment reporter and morning entertainment reporter/producer for the station.
Hernandez is a graduate of The University of Texas at San Antonio.
Another Houston connection reported in the Express News is the fact that a native Houstonian, Niku Kazori, is taking over traffic duties for KENS.
