Univision 45 won more Emmys than you thought

KXLN Univision 45 President & General Manager of Univision Houston David Loving and Vice President of News and News Regional Director, Martha Kattan

Univision station across Texas won big in the 2017 Lone Star EMMY Awards.

Houston's KXLN 45, Dallas' KUVN 23 and San Antonio's KWEX 41 were recognized with more than 30 EMMY statues a few weekends ago at the ceremony in San Antonio.

In fact, the stations won more EMMY statues than you might have realized.

More on that in a moment.

Univision 45 KXLN Vice President of News and News Regional Director, Martha Kattan, who previously worked at DFW's KUVN, was inducted into the Lone Star Emmy Chapter 2017 Silver Circle in recognition of more than 25 years of experience in the broadcast industry.

But she's not looking to the past.

Instead she's excited about another KXLN win, and this one certainly has its eyes toward the future.

Edicion Digital team at Lone Star Emmy Awards 2017

"We are thrilled and honored to be the recipients of Lone Star EMMY award for Edicion Digital Houston, the first local Spanish-language newscast conceived, designed and produced to engage Latino millennials," Kattan told mikemcguff.com.

Edicion Digital is anchored by Laura Sierra and Osvaldo Corral.

The TV show airs on TV weekdays at 11:30am. It also simulcasts on digital platforms.

I'm told Edicion Digital was number one in its time slot when it debuted last May. It was also number one during the July 2017 sweeps book.

Now, you might not have realized that Edicion Digital Houston won the Emmy.

It turns out while reporting on this story, I learned that it was not named in the ceremony as a winner in the Newscast - Morning/Daytime category.

Only KXAS NBC 5 in Dallas - Forth Worth was named, but both stations earned the honor.

Univision was told after the fact there had been an error.

I contacted the Lone Star Emmy chapter about this, and it has now been added to the website.
