New KHOU 11 anchor Russ Lewis does not ignore viewer critics
As I told you months ago, Russ Lewis has arrived from TEGNA sister station KGW Portland and landed in Ron Trevino's morning anchor chair.

With his arrival came a massive channel 11 Houston anchor change, the likes I have never observed before around here.

Well, Lewis and newly moved co-anchor Lisa Hernandez (who came in from evenings and replaced Lily Jang on the show), have wrapped up their first week to mixed reviews.

And if I, a little free blogger.com blog, am receiving all these emails/social media/blog comment interactions about the changes, I can only imagine what KHOU 11 must be getting!

Today, the new morning anchors addressed the criticism on air by actually showing some of the complaints. I found out about this, because a viewer who is angry with the change, felt the station was mocking those who are not happy with the new morning team.

In reality, anytime a station makes major anchor or weather team changes, there will be fallout. Viewers become emotionally attached to anchors and TV stations like that...unless management wants to move those anchors around or get rid of them.

Eventually people will grow to like the new team or change the channel.

To get the station's ratings up, it appears KHOU news director Sally Ramirez decided to go big or go home back to Portland when she decided to blow up the TV anchor lineup she found upon taking the job.

Sometimes these bold moves are good and lead to TV gold, sometimes they lead me to write about a new news director coming to the station.

I mean, think about the KTRK news director who decided to put Marvin Zindler on the air in the 1970s. That was seen as a big gamble at the time...

It will be interesting to watch in the meantime. Stay tuned.
