Bob Allen took time away from the Houston sports scene to be one of the 15,000 guests at the Lakewood Yacht Club earlier this month for the 18th Annual Keels and Wheels Concours d'Elegance in Seabrook.
People in the TV sports community are talking about KHOU's move up in the 2013 May TV sweeps period with many saying Allen must have made a difference along with David Paul on the weather chroma key wall. The big boss at KHOU apparently agrees.
“The critical thing is that we did not lose in that (second) quarter-hour,” KHOU station president and general manager Susan McEldoon told the Houston Chronicle. “We have typically increased our lead-in (from CBS’ 9 p.m. show) but lose it in the second quarter-hour. That did not happen (in May). We have made some changes in the newscast, and viewers have responded.”
Back to Keels and Wheels, 300 hand-selected classic automobiles and vintage wooden boats were on hand including Babe Ruth's 1948 Lincoln Continental, Margaret Dunning's 1931 Model A, the Houston Grand Prix's Indy Car and the international debut of the Allard J2X MkII.
Keith Martin, Publisher of Sports Car Market Magazine and star of the TV program, "What's My Car Worth?," served as the Master of Ceremonies for the fifth consecutive year alongside the 2013 Grand Marshal Al Unser, Jr.
