San Antonio to get new 24-hour local news channel?

Jeanne Jakle of the San Antonio Express-News reports that the city could be in the running for another 24 hour local news channel after the closure of News 9 San Antonio a few years ago:

Time Warner Cable here is in the midst of "a conversation" about one, confirmed Gavino Ramos, Time Warner-S.A.'s vice president of communications. However, in Ramos' words, the cable company has yet to iron out details.

Austin's Time Warner system initiated such a 24-hour local news channel — News 8 Austin — a decade ago, Ramos said, and it's thriving. It's been tried here before, too. In 2003, Time Warner partnered with Belo Corp. and launched News 9 San Antonio. It was shut down in 2004, because it just couldn't draw enough interest to sustain it. READ MORE

Will Houston see another 24 hour local news channel after the failed operations like News 24 Houston and KNWS 51's 1990s effort? Probably not.
