The first pre-currency ratings in New York from Arbitron’s portable people meter service delivered the familiar pattern of ratings seen in Houston and Philadelphia where the electronic ratings service has already been commercialized. Rock, contemporary and other mainstream radio formats topped the rankers while Urban, Hispanic, and other niche-formatted stations took significant hits.
