Where is Mike Judge's Idiocracy movie?

Being this close to Austin, I have heard about the Mike Judge film, Idiocracy, being shot there for some time now. IMDB says the plot concerns:
"Private Joe Bauers, the definition of "average American", is selected by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program, set 1,000 years in the future. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed-down that he's easily the most intelligent person alive."

Friends in Austin have told me they know people who worked on the film. Luke Wilson was even supposedly at an Astros game at one point since he was close to town shooting in Austin. I've heard this stuff for a couple of years now - so where is the movie? Time Magazine found out and the answer might surprise you (I sound like a TV producer because of that last sentence):
That helps explain the strange fate of Idiocracy, a sci-fi comedy starring Luke Wilson and directed and co-written by Mike Judge, the guy whose spotless track record includes Beavis and Butt-head, King of the Hill and Office Space. Idiocracy may not be a bad movie, but every ad and trailer the studio put together for it tested atrociously. After sitting around finished for almost a year, the movie opened two weeks ago--sort of. Fox released it in a few theaters in seven cities (not including New York City), with no trailers, no ads, no official poster and no screenings for critics.
Yes the movie was too smart and couldn't be dumbed down for the mass promotion. Therefore the studio just kind of put it aside. That is sad.

I assume that is what happened to Office Space since it is one of the best movies you probably first saw on DVD.

So make sure to look for Idiocracy on your the shelf of your favorite movie rental store. Or as the hipsters do today - download it if you can. CONTACT: Leave me a Houston or Texas media news tip | COMMENT: Click to leave your thoughts on this post here
