Houston radio DJ launching Internet radio station

Do you still listen to Houston radio? It's no secret that the media pie keeps getting larger. More and more sources of entertainment show up to fight over your attention (iPod, XM/Sirius satellite radio, YouTube, RSS, blogs, podcasts...do I need to keep going?).

Here's the next one. Some Houston radio DJs are starting their own stations on the Internet.

Dave E. Crockett (formerly of 93Q KKBQ, 95.7 KIKK, Mix 96.5 KHMX, 107.5 KLDE among others) who is no stranger to the mikemcguff blog is the latest entrant into web radio with www.dxsradio.com. The DXSRadio site says the station launches September 4th with Crockett behind the microphone from 7 to 11 am Monday through Friday. Looks like the rest of the time you'll hear rock and country. Right now the site has a beta feel to it.

But it's radio on the Internet you say - who the heck listens to that? Good question. Just wait till Houston is blanketed with municipal wi-fi. That means you will eventually be able to get the Internet almost anywhere in the city (you can already do this through wireless phone companies). Some experts predict drivers will someday be able to pick up Internet radio in their cars.

This looks like a good time to get into the online radio biz. Houston PR Guru, John Wagner of Wagner Communications posts on how radio is suffering from changing demographics that could radically shift the medium's future.
