He says that NIN's performance overshadowed the legendary Bauhaus:
Clark's blog also features a close up picture of a shaved Trent Reznor. When we saw the band at the Toyota Center in November, my wife couldn't believe Reznor had shaved his head. I think she was looking at the guitarist all night.Reznor and NIN, fortunately or unfortunately, have no such luxuries anymore. His days as a college-rock zeitgeist ended more than a decade ago, when songs like Closer and Hurt became top 20 hits on the modern rock charts. For his part, Reznor used to resent his fame. After seeing him three times in Houston in the last 13 months, however, it's clear that he has now found a balance between being a rock star and still caressing his own self-loathing.
Aside from a set list that included gems from NIN's earliest albums, 1989's Pretty Hate Machine including Terrible Lie and the more unlikely Something I Can Never Have Reznor made sure to balance his 18 song set with hits and rarities.
His favorite new toy since playing the last Toyota Center is a retractable LED screen that would intermittently cover the stage-front like the security gate of a mall store before disappearing. During mega-hit Closer ,
it scrolled blips and bleeps like The Matrix.Reznor is at his best, however, at his most pained and isolated, a moment highlighted by his solo on Hurt. The band joined him to finish the show with The Hand That Feeds, from last year's most recent studio album With Teeth , and early favorite Head Like A Hole .
