You find the darndest things on YouTube. For example, Houston TV newscast opens from 1989.
So low tech, but very fun to watch. Some of the anchors are no longer in the business, while others are not living. Brings back memories of sitting at home and watching these newscasts.
The user who posted them must love TV. He has a lot of vintage clips from other cities all the way to the networks.
Here is the 1989 news opens collection (click on a channel below to watch the open):
13
11
2
I might be biased, but I like 13's the best - it's just slicker than the others.
Another observation, it's funny to see Channel 2 look so unflashy. That's the way the Hobby family liked their TV I guess.
Notice on the 13 clip how you see the old ABC Wednesday night lineup in the first frame - complete with Growing Pains, Head of the Class, Doogie Howser, M.D. and Anything But Love. Before 11's newscast, there's the Harpo screen from the Oprah show. Some things never change.
Why this YouTube user chose 1989, I don't know. Guess that's all he could get. Does anyone out there remember actually watching these every night?
