As part of the settlement, CBS Radio will receive $2 million in payments from Sirius Satellite Radio for CBS' broadcast recordings of The Howard Stern Show. No other terms and conditions were disclosed.Jeff Jarvis says Stern is the clear winner. A Jarvis commenter, Christopher Francis, writes this win opens a big opportunity:
CBS, which filed the lawsuit in February, charged that Stern had not returned recordings of his CBS radio program that under his agreement, belong to the company.
Stern gets a great deal from this. All that archive material could easily fill up yet another Sirius channel — Classic Howard 24/7, if you will.He is right. I am surprised that Stern gets all of his Infinity recordings so cheap! Stern already replays his WNBC recordings on Sirius when he is off, now he has a whole lot more of an archive to pull from.
Of course we don't know the full terms of the settlement. We'll see if he gets to play these recordings immediately or if he has to wait.
Back in Houston, I haven't turned to 650 KIKK-AM since Stern left. I now listen to Ed and Jackie on 107.5 KLDE-FM. When Jeff Ehling was a guest on their show, I told them how I switched from Stern to them in the mornings.
I said this goes against everything the consultants and research will tell you. They just answered my revelation with stunned looks because they knew I was right. CONTACT: Leave me a Houston or Texas media news tip | COMMENT: Click to leave your thoughts on this post here
