Houston city councilman's radio gig raises questions

Looks like I'm not the only one who has noticed Houston councilman Michael Berry's new gig on Talk Radio 950 KPRC. KHOU is all over it too.

This report takes a look at the issue beyond my questioning of city council meeting conflicts. They have valid points, based on broadcasting rules and politicians.

"Actually, it raises an ethical question about whether elected officials should be in positions where they have unlimited air time," said Bob Stein, KHOU Political Analyst.

At Houston City Hall, Berry is term-limited. He cannot run for another term on City Council. But he could run for mayor -- again -- or he could someday run for city controller. If he does, the exposure he gets on the radio sure can't hurt.

On a related note...Jeff Ehling is getting excited about the chance to be a guest on FM/AM radio. So radio folk take note and book the guy. Really, his enthusiasm is getting to me. CONTACT: Leave me a Houston or Texas media news tip | COMMENT: Click to leave your thoughts on this post here
