Finding unclaimed cash at the Texas Comptroller's Office web site is not a new story, but it is one viewers always seem to respond to. Some viewers still don't know there is a place for unclaimed property.
So to jazz this one up, we went the celebrity route. I found money for Beyonce Knowles and Channel 13 favorites like Christi Myers and Don Nelson. (See how much Christi and Beyonce had - Don only had 53 cents) I think the story did well for us.
When I went to Austin to interview Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn for the story, she talked to me about her son. For those of you who don't know, Strayhorn's son is White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan. She says she also has another son working in government.
Strayhorn told he that McClellan is her only son without kids. I said he has a lot on his plate right for that. She told me with a wink, " kids should be his priority."
The comptroller is a lot of fun to talk with and interview. You'll see a lot more of her as she runs for governor. We noticed upcoming campaign stickers on cars in her building's parking lot. It should be a good race next time.
In the meantime, check to see if you have any money coming your way. You never know.
