Courtney Gilmore to leave KPRC 2 for NBC 5 KXAS DFW

Houston loses it's own "Gilmore Girl" (I can't resist CW show title tie-ins): KPRC 2 anchor Courtney Gilmore is moving up north to work as a reporter for KXAS NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

After 9 years, KPRC 2 anchor/reporter Courtney Gilmore is headed to the DFW Metroplex to work as a reporter at KXAS NBC 5 I found out yesterday.

"She started as an intern, then traffic producer and eventually began her on air career," wrote KPRC 2 news director Rhonda LaVelle in a staff memo obtained by mikemcguff.com announcing Gilmore's job move. "She’s done just about everything and covered too many big stories to even try to list."

Houston is losing a great on air talent and one of its own!

Gilmore is a graduate of Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA). That prestigious training led her to the University of Minnesota where she received her BFA degree in Classical Theatre in 2005. While at the university, Gilmore performed and trained around the world from Shanghai and Beijing, China to London, England.

"The world is a classroom, and I am forever learning," Gilmore once wrote.

That kind of thought led Gilmore to also earn a master's degree at Dallas Theological Seminary.

"I have come to realize that my platform is not to give voice to the voiceless," Gilmore added. "Those who are marginalized already have a voice. It is simply my job to hand them a microphone, and add their voice to the story."

In her spare time, Gilmore also mentors young women and girls.

Her last day at KPRC will be April 3rd.

  3. Cannot believe she is leaving. She never fails to make me smile. Local 2 is losing one of the best. I always thought she should have anchored a lot more. She's has a caring soul and a wonderful and beautiful mind. Wishing her the best and hope she makes her way back home in the future.

  4. I kind of had a feeling Courtney Gilmore was going to leave or had already left KPRC Channel 2. I have not seen her behind the anchor desk on the weekend AM shows, at least not on the times that I've viewed them.

  5. They should have given her more time on the anchor desk. She was really great. A big loss for KPRC and a big gain for KXAS.

    1. Those two anchored the 11AM news today. They are clueless and should never anchor again. Radar the Weatherdog could do a better job reading news if he came out of retirement.

  13. We are fans of KPRC2. We were thinking courtney was on vacation or on a small leave. Well, we see she's no longer part of Channel 2 news family in Houston. We wonder why? It just like most business, the older people are force out for younger and new faces. News business is a tough and competitive business. We wish and pray for Courtney as she find happiness. Teddy Pendergrass wrote a song called, "Cold,Cold World".

  14. Courtney was the best. Her smile was infectious and she was genuine. She was much better than some who remain. What a loss KPRC. Should have held on to her.
