KHOU 11 news set gets big addition

It's 4K, nine feet tall and ready to display news and weather!

Most people love sports or have a particular hobby they really like. What do I get off on? New TV news sets and graphics packages.

No wonder my wife has been telling me I need to talk to someone.

My latest thing to get excited about is KHOU 11's new set addition. And it's a whopper!

The TEGNA owned station debuted a new, state of the art, giant screen on Election Night. KHOU 11 tells me this sucker is 12 feet wide and nine feet tall.

The video wall is capable of displaying video in beautiful 4K resolution. Think of your High-Def TV on steroids. That's why 4K is also referred to as Ultra HD.

The station plans to incorporate the screen in multiple ways during news and weather segments.

(Thanks Robin)

  1. Not that size matters, but BOTH of 13's new screens are bigger than this and are higher rez than 4K!

    1. It's not how big it is but how you use it

  2. Great point Anonymous! It's about presentation. And speaking of KHOU, when's Hernandez - Blank coming back? And will she go by Hernandez, Blank or HB?

  3. KHOU-TV might want to update their studio set considering since KPRC-TV NBC 2 & Ch. 13 KTRK-TV are running away with the new studio set department!

  4. I have noticed a couple things different with their video area or something anyways. But even looking at KTRK's board and such. At least KHOU is finally up with the times and getting away from the GREEN screen. I think Lisa will be back perhaps sometime this coming week or the week before Thanksgiving at least fits with what she last said.

I also agree perhaps a new set look but who knows if it comes from Gannett as well too and what they can do.

  5. I like the new video board, but 11s set still seems cramped. 13s new set and 2s and 26s sets are nice and spacious.

  6. I can tell you that TEGNA sister station KARE (Twin Cities NBC) is getting a set makeover. No word yet on when their new set is scheduled to debut. I believe KING (Seattle NBC) is supposed to be moving to a new location sometime next year, and closing longtime broadcast facility. Belo had originally planned to build new broadcast home for WWL (New Orleans CBS) a decade ago, but those plans were canceled, amid Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, as the station remains in longtime broadcast facility.

A couple of TEGNA stations are in need of set makeovers. WUSA (DC CBS), KUSA (Denver NBC), and WKYC (Cleveland NBC) are looking quite dated. Hopefully WUSA is next in line for set makeover. I would say that WFAA (DFW ABC) and KHOU (Houston CBS) need new sets as well. WXIA (Atlanta NBC) receiving modifications to their current set. I could see WTSP (Tampa Bay CBS), KSDK (St. Louis NBC), KPNX (Phoenix NBC), KGW (Portland NBC), and KXTV (Sacramento ABC) holding out till 2017-ish. WCNC (Charlotte NBC) should be good for another 4 or 5 years.
