KTRK abc13 reporter Angela Chen has departed the station after arriving in November 2014, but expect to see her elsewhere on the Houston TV dial.

The rumor is that Chen will jump to Fox 26 KRIV. Stay tuned to see if that is correct. If so, she will follow in the footsteps of Katie McCall.

Before Houston, Chen was at KOLO 8 Reno News Now as a reporter/fill-in anchor.

  1. wonder if she will have to sit out a non-compete before she starts on air at Fox?

    1. She didn't have a non-compete. She was a freelancer.

  2. I guess she wants to work at the top rated morning show?

  3. She was soooooooooooo emotionless... hardly ever smiled; just a blank bitter look. Hope it works out for her...

  4. I'm expecting her to join Fox 26!

  5. Something has been going on with KTRK lately. Something in the water or such that people have jumped ship to somewhere else or left news altogether.

13 was tops there for a while then KPRC, now KRIV.

I didn't see her much but either she wasn't happy or as said something the station wanted from her didn't appeal well to her.

Wish her all the best if does end up there

    1. The list of people leaving Ch. 13 this year
      1.) Sonia Azad
      2.) Sharron Melton
      3.) Angela Chen

Big question is whether we'll see more leaving the station in massive droves!

    4. Fox 26 was first ONE month and I that was a fluke. It's either 2 or 13

  6. I guess she's replacing Kristine Galvan.

    1. Wait a minute, Kristine left Fox 26, when ?

    2. Kristine posted on Facebook last week that she was leaving the station.

      "Friends-
My contract with Fox 26 expires tomorrow. I'll be away from Houston TV news for at least six months, if I return at all.
      It's bittersweet.
I've had an amazing ten years with KRIV and have met some pretty remarkable people along the way, but it's time for some 'me' time.
As some of y'all know, I had a right knee scope in January to fix a badly torn meniscus, medial ligament tear and lateral ligament tear.
'On the job' recovery was difficult- especially during cold snaps and the Houston rodeo.
Last week, I had my left knee scoped to repair the left meniscus, as well as tears to the left knee medial and lateral ligaments.
I have no idea how I've been able to wear heels all this time, but for the next few months I'm going to shelf the heels in favor of running/ cross training shoes and work on strengthening my knees and legs.
I'll be 37 years old later this month. I can't imagine the complications I could face twenty years from now if I don't focus on correcting the problem now.
I've always loved my job. I love reporting. I love writing, but the news industry is changing.
Reporters and photographers have always traditionally worked in teams, but reporters are now being asked (and in some cases required) to work alone. No photographers. No editors. Total DIY.
I don't know if I'll return to TV news, but I do know returning won't be an option if I fail to strengthen my knees. There's no way I'll have the mobility, flexibility or strength needed to carry or use the necessary equipment.
      So there you have it."

  7. Steve, that's what the post says.

Mike, why would ANYONE go to FOX 26. the ratings for the morning jumped once. it's not the station people go to overall for news. please get to the bottom of this

  8. Big question is if she will use fox 26 as a stepping stone to a bigger job like she did with KTRK?

    1. Fox 26 as a stepping stone: who knows, she might like it there & stay for about a decade, hoping one of the weekday morning anchors kick the bucket or get forced into retirement, & take their job.

  9. Hi Chode, lets practice journalism for just a sec, okay? Most of the positions you list are freelance. That means she nor the station has any obligation to her. At KTRK, she was never a staff employee. She was hired to fillin for someone while they were on leave. Of course, she popped up across the street. People need to work and eat. #Duh

So before you jump to a conclusion, get the facts and then once you have those facts, properly interpret them. Stop reinforcing #dumbAmercan #dumbTexan stereotypes.

Now, would you like to go out for drinks? Call me.

    1. Makes sense, she disappeared from 13 just as Fognini or whatever and some other lady showed up, pretty obvious sign she was freelance. I think when she came on she replaced someone else who was freelancing.

    2. Another example of freelance is Craig Bell, who worked at Ch. 13 for like 5 months before he left & went to Dallas back in 2007!

  10. Angela is a great reporter. If she goes to fox then that is a good deal for them.

    1. Yes I luv the 3 major networks, abc, nbc, cbs, unfornately I think like all jobs are politics or ceo's or upper management either likes you or doesn't however, I really get tired that out of no where sometimes a new journalist appears & no formal presentation? hello we would like to introduce a new staff member etc? oh well best just to say we didn't care for example the sports analyst or now the new one(job title) is a director from A&M no names as not to offend no-one!

  13. You'll notice that Angela is tight-lipped because she hasn't said anything on her Twitter page & her Facebook page hasn't been seen for weeks!
