Idolina Peralez debuted on the KPRC 2 green screen Sunday morning to replace vacating meteorologist Mary Lee.

UPDATE 8/5/2013
Thanks to reader help and a lot of web surfing, it appears Idolina Peralez was Idolina Walker at KIFI Local News 8/KIDK in Southeastern Idaho, Southwestern Montana and Northwestern Wyoming.

According to her website, idowalker.com, while her on-air career only began a few years ago, Ido began her broadcast news career at KIFI as a news producer. Within a year, she was promoted to Managing Editor. To utilize her producing and knowledge of computer science, she accepted another promotion to be the station’s Digital Content Director.

She then learned the weather system and landed a job on the chroma key wall.

Peralez or Walker is graduating from the Broadcast Meteorology Program at Mississippi State University in August 2013 with a 4.0 GPA.

She originally received her Bachelor of Science in Communication with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism from Brigham Young University-Idaho. She minored in Information Systems because of her quick understanding and ease around technology.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to be back in Texas and closer to my family," Peralez told mikemcguff.com. "While it was a very, very long drive to get here, my husband and I are looking forward to exploring this amazing city, from the good eats to all the wonderful arts and entertainment Houston offers.

"I am also extremely excited to learn more about tropical weather, which is my favorite type of weather. I love the science of meteorology and have a passion for what I do. I hope Houston can see that with every weathercast."

Original Post

Normally I have some biographical info right here for new on air Houston talent, but Peralez is untraceable on the Internet.

The only thing I could find was a mention that she was starting at KPRC on the station's Facebook page (her new KPRC FB page too with little info). She might also have been in McAllen, TX at one time.  I tried Google, Bing and even Ask.

This either means KPRC hired her off the street or she changed her name upon arriving to Houston. So this post is an all-points bulletin (APB) to the media community for Peralez. Anyone have any info on her?

I contacted Peralez Sunday morning but have not heard back from her.

As for Mary Lee, she said her goodbyes Saturday as she heads to California. Hey Mary, if you see this, please let me know what your next job is!

  1. She used to go by Ido Walker: she worked at Local 8 news in Idaho. I know that she is married so she may have gone as Walker at first. She knows how to speak fluent spanish. KPRC probably wanted her to use her spanish name to reel in more viewers. They don't really cater to much of the spanish community, which is odd to me bc we are in HOUSTON (a city with a LARGE spanish speaking community)

  3. This always gets me...What makes them think just because her name sounds Hispanic I am going to be persuaded to watch?
Silly...have not seen her yet....but she will probably be rolling her "r's" also...

    1. I'm not a 100% sure, but I'm pretty certain that Channel 2 didn't hire Ms. Peralez with sole intent of trying to persuade you to watch their weekend morning broadcasts, but I could be wrong.

It's not uncommon for broadcasters in some markets to make their on air personal Americanize their names, which is probably why she went by Walker up in Idaho/Wyoming/Montana. Thankfully, this is something that doesn't seem to happen here in Houston these days. John Granato at 1560 had to go by John Grant when he was in Louisiana and Roula Christie over at 104 had to us her last name as her first name while in Philadelphia.

  4. I just checked with the website www.stationindex.com and she is coming from market # 162 to a #10 market YIKES! That's quite a jump! I do wish her all the best but, I'm afraid that you just can't replace MaryLee who had a smile & laughter bigger than Downtown Houston! And another thing that is going for her is that she can speak fluent Spanish! And as one commented on, it will help Local 2 in attracting spanish viewers. I hope she does well!

  5. She seems ok. Too bad she is required to change her name back to appease Ch 2's hispanic efforts. What's worse is this weekend she was forced to share the camera with the most inept, unqualified, and unwatchable Ch 2 "talent" -- the horrible Jen Reyna.

  6. She hasn't gotten any better since she started. She butchered Anahuac today. Surely KPRC could find someone better qualified!

  7. She has no charisma, lacks honest enthusiasm (what enthusiasm she does demonstrate feels forced and fake), and this is her FIRST weather job as a graduate with a meteorology degree. That's wrong. I want to see seasoned pros not people learning how to do their job so I no longer watch KPRC on the weekends.

  8. I like the name Idolina. She could ramp up the glam considerably. Channel 2 has several Latina broadcasters, so she should feel at home in that respect.

  9. She's been a horrible replacement for Mary Lee. Back to the drawing boards KPRC.

  10. I liked Mary but Idolina is a good replacement. And she is awful easy on the eyes.

  11. I like her, cute with a smile. Being Latina is a plus for me, and I like her name.

  12. So sad to see KPRC using this amateur during the week now. So I won't be watching KPRC at all.

  13. I lived in the IF area and loved Ido Walker and thought I was watching her sister Idolina Peralez in Houston! Way to go! So happy for your continues success! You go girl! Idaho and Tx fan!

  15. I am in I.F. where she was our meteorologist prior to this, and was curious what happened to her.She went by Ido Walker.
She was efficient and easy on the eyes (lot's of unattractive and obese/overweight people here ) She's Mormon, as 90% of people in IdahoFalls are. Though, not I. I wish her well.

  16. SInce Mary Lee left, I have tried to watch Idolina. Man, does she need a makeover! My wife pointed out that she could take some notes from Reyna. Also, tell Courtney to quit parting her hair in the middle.

  17. Absolutely awful! She not only needs a makeover, but needs enthusiasm and speech lessons. Not a good replacement for Mary Lee who was wonderful!

  19. Ida has a great personality if you allow yourself to warm up to her. She has an infectious cheerfulness if you're not a stubborn grump.

  20. Sorry to see Idolina go. She was adorable. KPRC has one of the best looking group of people in Houston.
