740 KTRH replaces Lana Hughes and J.P. Pritchard; KTRH is now NewsTalk 740

UPDATE
Houston getting News 92 FM KROI - 24 hour radio news with Lana Hughes and J.P. Pritchard

Lana Hughes and J.P. Pritchard are out of 740 KTRH after 27 years. And now the station drops the news front and goes with the talk moniker.

"This is an exciting time for our station," Clear Channel Houston AM Operations Manager Bryan Erickson said in a statement. "Like other forms of media, we have to continue to adapt. We have to serve our listeners by being informative and entertaining. Lana and JP are an institution in Houston, they are true professionals, and we, along with our listeners, will miss hearing their comforting voices every morning. We know our new show has big shoes to fill."

With a change in the morning show comes a change in direction for KTRH. No more NewsRadio 740 KTRH branding. Now the station is called NewsTalk 740. That's because the days of this station being a news station have been fading quickly over the last years. Clearly it is a conservative talk station now with no apologies. History buffs will note that KTRH used to be a talk station in the early 80s too. KTRK 13 investigative reporter Wayne Dolcefino had a talk show on it.

Well we should have seen this coming. Just last week I linked to the Denver Post article stating that Lois Melkonian was on her way to Houston. Melkonian was just a talk show host at Denver Clear Channel station KOA (KTRH is a Clear Channel station). While she just did talk, Melkonian does have news experience having worked at KCBS radio and KGO-TV in San Francisco as an anchor/reporter.

But the star of the new show according to the Clear Channel press release is Matt Patrick. In fact the show that debuts July 5th (5 to 9am) is actually called “Houston’s Morning News with Matt Patrick.”

In fact here is video of Matt Patrick taking Texas to task from his website:

According to a station release, Patrick has been splitting time between Indiana (95.3 MNC, Michiana) and Ohio (WTAM, Cleveland and WLW, Cincinnati) and will be moving to Houston, along with his wife and three children. mattpatrickshows.com

The station adds the rest of the show lineup remains the same. I assume there will still be news updates at top and bottom of the hour too.

Now back to Lana and JP. I posted how both legendary news anchors were inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2009. Just two years ago, KTRH sent me this release about the radio duo:

Through it all, “Lana and JP” have been the staple of the morning radio landscape in Houston. They are currently enjoying very high ratings, as good as ever. “Lana and JP are as good as they’ve ever been, and they get better every day,” said Houston market manager Eddie Martiny. “They’re just now starting to hit their stride. We think they have at least 25 more great years to inform and entertain Houstonians.”

Damn how things change quickly in broadcasting. Readers have already written me expressing anger over this KTRH change, especially since it is the third major shift in Houston radio in just a month (SEE 106.9 The Zone and Kidd Kraddick replaces Maria Todd mornings on Mix 96.5 KHMX).

No doubt, JP and Lana have been the first voices many Houstonians have heard in the morning for many, many years. That puts them in a special place for many listeners. They sounded great and had tremendous chemistry together. They did what they could over the last few years with the dwindling resources they were given as a result of cutbacks.

Think about it, a decade ago, Lana and JP has a huge news staff behind them on the streets and freeways (traffic) telling Houston what was happening with news and traffic. Trust me when I say that KTRH was pre-set number one on the car radios of the other journalists in town. That clearly changed over the last decade as more and more news blocks disappeared in favor of syndicated talk shows. This reminds us that broadcasting is a business about money and not news coverage. These talks shows do after all get ratings or they would not be there.

But out of respect for these two broadcasting giants, here are Lana and JP's bios:

A native Houstonian, Lana Hughes is a graduate of Conroe High School and has a B.A. in English and journalism/communications from Baylor University. Her career began as a newspaper reporter at the Daily Courier in Conroe, before going into broadcasting at Conroe's KIKR. She first joined KTRH as weekend anchor and field reporter, before teaming up with JP Pritchard on the KTRH Morning News.
Lana's lifelong passions are writing and animals! Her love of both come together in her blog, Animal House. Her pet page showcases the efforts of area rescue groups and shelters to help those with no voice, and is dedicated to providing news and information to help stop the needless suffering of abused, neglected and abandoned animals.

JP Pritchard has been anchoring at NewsRadio 740 KTRH since 1982, and with Lana Hughes as his on-air partner since 1984. JP received a degree in journalism from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. After doing stints as reporter/anchor and news director at radio stations in the midwest, he was recruited to be news director at KULF Radio, now KBME SportsTalk 790. He and Lana have won many awards honoring their work as writers, anchors and interviewers. And JP and Lana have won the "Best Anchor Team" and "Best Newscast" awards several times from the Texas AP Broadcasters. In 2000, JP won the "Best Documentary" award for a two-hour production on the history of Houston. He and his wife, Esther, and have three grown sons and two grandsons.

  1. Wow... that's sad. They've been part of AM 740 for as long as I've been alive. I still remember listening to them Saturday morning in 2001 when Tropical Storm Allison hit sometime before or after I graduated from high school. This is just an absolute "wow..." to me, Mike McGuff.

  2. What the hell is wrong with Houston Radio. You blow up the Zone and simulcast 107.5 then Houston brings in radio douche...Kidd Kraddick and now they get rid of 2 icons in the morning. Houston Radio is becoming a joke.

  3. I used to listen to 740 and enjoyed J.R. and Lana but the station started leaning so far right I couldn't isten anymore. I want a newscast that will just give me the news. Can't anyone give us that anymore?

  4. Go up to New York, DC, Boston, Philly, and you will hear TRUE news stations on the air. Traffic and weather on the 1s or 2s or whenever, every 10 minutes, 24/7. KYW 1060, 1030 WBZ, 1500 WTOP, 1010 WINS, 880 WCBS (NYC has two all-news radio stations). They all get high ratings. Why won't it work here? Houston is a big enough city with plenty of news to support it.

  5. what sucks is that the Chron knew before Lana and JP apparently did because they were still on the air when the Chron published their story. really crappy way to run a railroad if you ask me.

  6. Its my understanding that this dynamic duo was literally chased out of the building after their firing with scant time to pick up their belongings! ! Way to go CC! Great way to say goodbye after 30 years! The industry will be talking about this one for awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  7. This was done in a tactless way, it was talked about and speculated weeks in advance by the Denver Post and various message boards online. Both of the people replacing Lana and JP didn't refrain from keeping their lips tight about it.

I feel for the two Anchors, who insiders say were stressing out about losing their jobs up until the last hour without being told anything by the management. Then they were finally cut loose, unaware that today would be their last day on the air. No chance to say goodbye to their loyal listeners of some 20+ years!

Clear Channel should stand for Classless Channel.

  8. The station just lost a lot of long time listeners, including myself.

Time to hunt for a real news station now.

  9. Only hillbillies would listen to KTRH now.

  12. I've listened to Lana and JP more years than I can remember. They will be missed. The only time I'll listen to KTRH now will be for Astros' games :(

  13. Lana and JP are out because, well, it's the way of commercial radio. 27 years and they show you the door with little if any ceremony or class. KTRH has always done it that way - in the 1970s there were the 'bloody Augusts' of newsroom purges each year prior to the start of the fall book. And no, Houston doesn't seem to revere it's radio news stations - no legacy KYW or WINS. Never has. Maybe it's a cultural or weather thing. Maybe if we spent months between November and February covered in blowing snow and depending on a radio news operation to tell us if the commuter trains were going to be operating? KY and WINS have made themselves a solid part of the life of their markets...KTRH not so much.

  14. What a travesty to lose these two fine radio personalities. And in return, we get a right wing, redneck, homophobic, xenophobic big-mouthed moron. Like there isn't enough of those out there already. God help us.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well I guess I will miss 740. I think I will go back to no talk radio. Maby I can go back to The Roudy Ride Home.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I guess I'll get my morning Houston news fix by listening to a Beaumont station. Political and sports talk shows are so boring. Houston radio is now dead. RIP

  17. My first job in radio 40 years ago this fall, was as a weekend news anchor at KTRH at the top of the Rice Hotel.

You're right, wherever I went, KTRH was the first news I checked to get a quick look at what was breaking locally.

Looking at the moronic, but predictable video of the new guy, I can only lament what has happened to my profession.

Once at KQUE years ago, I commented to Arch Yancey, looking at job applications, how it seemed anybody thought they could apply and go on the air, it sounded so easy.

    Now, apparently, they can.

  18. I've been a LONG time listener of JP and Lana, and really enjoyed their broadcasts. They will be sorely missed. Their (abrupt) departure leaves a big void in the Houston market. I'll now be looking for a webcast with a similar news format, and you can be sure it won't be a CC station.
    Way to go, Clear Channel!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. After nearly 30 years as a team, they are booted out as if they were trash. I may listen to 740 when Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin and others come on the air, but forget the morning. I'll find another news channel to find out what's current in the news. This is shameful.
They were an institution and deserve better.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think that this is a tragedy. After nearly 30 years together they are trown out like so much garbage. This new guy is not even entertaining. I'll still listen to 740 but later in the day when the syndicated shows are on.

In the mean time I'll find another news channel for the morning and afternoon.

What a cheap shot for the best news team on the air.

    Good by 740.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well KTRH has just removed the only reason I was still listening. I used to listen all day and then they kept firing all the people I listened to and replaced them with talking heads spouting the company line. Lana and JP were the last hold outs. No more KTRH for me.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Agreed, i listen every morn. and there has been no mention of this change. I turned on the radio this morning to a great shock. Had to pull over and google search to see what happened and found this artical. I much perfer the news in the morning. I love MB in the eavnings on the way home. Jay

  23. I've listened to Lana and JP for many, many years and am appalled at how they were kicked to the curb for this untalented, sophomoric simpleton. Great job 740! After you screwed things up the last time you jumbled things up between 740 and 950 you've managed to eliminate the only reason I listened to you in the morning. My heart goes out to Lana and JP. My comments and disgust have been sent to 740's program manager and hope others will do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I will not listen to 740 in the mornings. I listened when I was getting dressed for work and on the way to work. I do not like this Matt guy. I don't even like his voice. You lost this listener.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I woke up this morning and couldn't figure out what happened to Lana and JP. I was hoping that the new guy was just filling in for them. The new guy was Sooooo Boring!!!! When I realized that he was a replacement I decided to find a new channel. Good bye 740 !!!!!!-the new guy is so freaking boring and he sounds like he should be babysitting George Noory in the middle of the night. What Dumb @sses decided that the icons, the respectful and playful Lana and JP should go? I want to send them a pin the tail on the donkey game because that's probably how they make decisions. I've been listening to 740 in the mornings ONLY because of Lana and JP's voices. I will follow them to whatever station they land on if they come back. ~MB demographic -Professional female 40's - FU 740!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I DON'T LIKE THE NEW GUY. BOO, BOO!, BOO!!, BOO!!!Come on everyone, let's riot. WE WANT LANA AND JP BACK. LANA - JP, LANA - JP, LANA - JP, LANA - JP!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Why can't we have both the new guy AND Lana and JP? Just give them all less time and I am sure they will all make it quality time by doing that. I could live with that but I can't stay with 740 without Lana and JP. My radio WAS frozen on 740 so I could hear them. I'm moving on.. I trusted ya 740 but not now until you make it right.

    ReplyDelete
  28. It was as bad as not getting a space shuttle. Down right disrespectful to the legendary icons and to us loyal listeners. You didn't even take a survey. I bet the folks at 740 work for Obamma.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dear New Guy, what a bad first day. I didn't switch the radio station until I confirmed that Lanna and JP weren't on vacation. I was in misery listening to you. Come on...you have experience, right? Blah show. Sorry, but I can only give you a few minutes tomorrow to confirm my gut feeling that you are 'yuck to my ears'.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi Houston,
Does anyone know if Lanna and JP are planning to land at another station? I was turned off this morning so I am going to search for a new channel but I would like to follow Lana and JP if anyone knows their plans.
    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  31. What a shock. I remember them geting in the hall of fame. Doesn't seem like 2 years ago. I have so much respect for Lana and JP. I used to have respect for 740 too but not now. Bad decision. Really bad.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Is it true that Lana and JP did not get to say goodbye? They are icons and hardly missed a day of work. Don't they deserve better than that?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am putting a curse on anyone who had a part in the decision to let Lana and JP go. If you want the curse to be removed then either bring back Lana and JP, or each one of you needs to do 100 hours of community service work in the fifth ward.

    ReplyDelete
  34. One day without my dependable L&JP was bad enough. Matt is just not my cup of tea. I found a clip of him being very rude on TV. Who needs lack of QUALITY like that? L&JP are sweet pros who do a lovely job and they never have to stoop down or lower the standards. 740 you have lost me and my dollars.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I would like to ask any other radio station to step up and at least interview Lana and JP to allow them and we the listeners to have closure. You would probably gain all of us as new listeners, so please advertise if you are smart enough to go with it. We'll need time to get the word so we can participate. 740 lost their class letting them go the way they did so I don't dare ask 740 to let them say goodbye.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The dingleberry does it again, good job Mike,NOT

    ReplyDelete
  37. Houston still has quality radio news. Check out KUHF (88.7 FM), the NPR station at the University of Houston, which recently adopted an all news/talk format. Many of their news staff are KTRH veterans who now work in an environment that emphasizes objectivity and integrity in reporting. Now that JP and Lana are gone, I've lost the only reason to listen to KTRH and will remove it as one of my radio "buttons."

    ReplyDelete
  38. With the departure of JP & Lana, so too ends my listenership of 740.

    ReplyDelete
  39. HORRIBLE not to let them say goodbye to their listeners! First Paul Harvey passed away and left an empty hole in my morning, but now with no Lana and JP, there is nothing keeping my dial on 740. The new guy and new format are horrible! And my next best option is NPR?!!? Yuck!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sad day indeed. I am one of those right wingers y'all refer to, but I have been waking up to Lana and JP for at least 20 years, maybe longer. I dropped KTRH years ago when they made that left wing shift happend. Then they went overboard the other way. I'm as right wing as they come, but I just cannot stand Hannity, and now this morning moron seems to be just like him with even less class if that's possible. I will write the jerks at the station a letter like the last time and just like the last time, I probably won't get a reply... what cowards they are for the way they handled this.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I moved here from California in 1987. There I always listed to KFWB, an AM news station. I thought I was going to go through withdrawals when I moved to Houston. Then I found Lana & JP. I was hooked. They became family every morning. I loved waking up to them. I hated when 740 changed their format a while back with all those damn interviews on the phone every 10 mins or so. I just wanted my news, weather, and sports. So, this 4th of July I go on a road trip to see family. I get back only to hear this crap. Now I know 2012 is coming. The end is near. Good Bye CC.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I miss JP and Lana. Try to find news on Houston radio now! Impossible! I hope they get good jobs at a GOOD News Radio station here in Houston. Wish they'd start their own somehow.
Something seems very wrong with CC now. I wish Lana and JP the very best! Something good will come of this bad deal. Wait and see.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I would rather sift through the liberal swill and pick up tid-bits of truth and beauty than support anything that CC does anymore...Staunch conservatism I may espouse, yes...but, 740...bye bye!

    ReplyDelete
  44. One time when we lived in Houston, I tried to cancel out of my local phone company contract because of continual poor connections that they couldn't or wouldn't fix. They tried to sock me with hundreds of dollars in cancellation fees, and didn't want to talk to me. I called the KTRH consumer help line. One morning, commuting to Pearland, I heard my own recorded voice on KTRH stating my complaint. Very soon, the phone company's lawyer called me to sue for peace. They gave me a high quality connection that they could have given from the start!

Anyway, I've been working lately in northern Indiana and have listened to Matt Patrick's morning radio show on 95.3 FM. His delivery is a tad bombastic but he comes off as a good guy, who has championed some worthy public service organizations and charities on the air.

    ReplyDelete
  45. This is a poor representation for our Houston. I thought we were supposed to be a forward-thinking, diverse, intelligent city? I know we don't allow anything but hard-line republicans here but there are others who would like to hear something other than another "newsman" who spouts hate of everyone but himself. Come on, Houston, bring back the likes of J.P. and Lana, a respectable duo who make me smile instead of shout.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am hoping that Lana and JP will find something good for themselves. I feel like a couple of old friends have been ripped off the air. This was the only station to get informed and unbiased news info.

    Signed - X-loyal listener

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm glad to find this blog - I was wondering why there had been no outcry about this travesty. If memory serves, J.P. and Lana were on the air during and after Hurricane Alicia in '83, and I have been listening to them ever since. I truly hope they do resurface elsewhere in town, as I miss hearing their voices every morning at 5. J.P, Lana, you guys are the best; I can't believe they did this to you.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Lana and J.P. were great becasue they gave us the news in a reliable yet easygoing way. I want good news at some point in the day, not news through some talking head's filter. KTRH's early morning slot is not for me anymore and will find an alternative. I might have been a "business" decision but might also backfire. Horrible move for true journalism in Houston.
While I am conservative it might but fun to listen to NPR for a while to hear what the other side is saying.

Me: 50+ male with disposable income,a journalism degree and over 30 years experience in analyzing news coverage.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I was astonished not hearing JP and Lana.....who is this idiot that replaced them? This isn't news ,it's propoganda!!!I'm turning the channel after 15 years of my morning drive.

    ReplyDelete
  50. You get enough politically orientated opinions expressed during the day. While I agree with most of this, it was refreshing to start my day with some fact based, non biased reporting. It is very disappointing to see a total lack of appreciation for the loyal service JP and Lana have shown to KTRH over the years. Only time will tell obviously. I will see if there is something else to listen to while I get ready for my day.

    ReplyDelete
  51. JP and Lana were victims of total inept management. Having spent three years working for KTRH, I watched as Bryan Erickson, Eddie Martiny and Roger Hudson tore down the once reputable 50,000 watt blowtorch into a joke of a right wing mouthpiece. They are truly the source of everything bad that has come from Clear Channel Houston in the past 3-5 years.

I'm a very conservative guy so for me to say that show how pathetic their choices have become. Prior to the shakedown, KTRH consisted of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Berry and Mark Levin, with only a few hours jn the morning to get actual news, although Roger Hudson's story selection became the same old spin. But bow, even that is gone. Essentially you get no choice with that station now. Same show all day long with a different voice, and now that includes the morning drive as well.

Thanks for the balance, KTRH. Thanks for destroying radio in Houston. On second thought, thanks for destroying radio...period. Incompetent buffoons....

    ReplyDelete
  52. I called the news director Roger Hudson I think is his name? He is a complete idiot who can't even complete a sentence without destroying the English language. I suggest you go above his head to complain about this new morning show. Maybe Eddie Martiny? Or who's the regional VP?

    ReplyDelete
  53. I work shift work and JP&L were with me coming and going to work in the mornings. My first thought last week was that they were on vacation. My travels don't concern me some much with the traffic and weather, but I'll miss their smiling commentary. You could hear it in their voice. I just can't handle another afternoon frame of mind while I'm trying to clear my head to start the day.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I cannot hardly believe that we lost two fine radio personalities, like Lana and JP. And in return, we get a right wing, redneck, tea-bagging big-mouthed moron. The class of KTRH has gone down, way down. There is no news program any more. How can they just kick-out Lana and JP? Sad, so sad.
I will not be listening to AM740 anymore!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I want news with JP and Lana, not some garbage CC thought was better. You just lost a listener.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Well I come back from a week vacation and a death in the family and to my horror there is no news on in the morning. I'm really sick about it. I enjoyed waking up and getting my news each morning from J.P. and Lana and now there is yet another opinionated talk show from a guy who sounds like a grating voice over speckled with impersonal news breaks. I used to quickly turn off 740KTRH at 9:00 when Glenn Beck came on. It's not a left or right issue it's the overly opinionated talk radio with no actual news that drives me crazy and now my last vestige of news is gone. I like news not monologues. I guess I have to start listening to sports radio in the morning. I just can't stomach KTRH's new morning show.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Please tell me they will be back on the air on another station in Houston.

So hard to take, first the disappointing Astros and now KTRH shoots itself in the foot.

Mornings are not the same. The new guy won't say another word in my house.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I guess some "professionals" in the media do not understand the level of comfort we all had listening to JP and Lana every morning. They were our connection to times past and present. I guess the next thing to happen is Dave Ward and Bob Allen will be removed for "newer" faces and styles. Hey you carpetbagging intruders in CC management, leave what is dear to us alone, leave our traditions alone and get out of Houston.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I hate to see them go. I always enjoyed listening to Lana and J.P. I don't like the new guy at all. I'll have to listen to something else.

    ReplyDelete
  60. They were boring.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have listened to JP and Lana every morning for years. I miss them. I like getting caught up on the news and weather on my way to work. I hope they show up somewhere else. The new guy is awful. Totally boring. I have had to give up my old friend 740 in the am. Still searching for a new favorite. If Michal Berry doesn't stop sreaming and acting so stupid I will give up 740 totally.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I posted on their Facebook Page my support for Lana and JP, and lo and behold, my posts were deleted, and my posting privileges were removed.

They will brook no opposition to their plan.

I voted with my radio dial, and I hope others do so as well. I do miss Michael Berry and his rants about our "Congresswooooommmmmaaaaannnnn"...

    ReplyDelete
  63. I've complained to CC about MP. I want the news, not a show with a rude, overzealous NUT. I don't want a blogger - hey I'm conservative and they guy gets under my skin. No more morning show for me. I MISS JP and Lana!!!!!!!!!

  64. Lana and JP should do a morning show on NPR

    ReplyDelete
  65. Has anybody heard if J P and Lana might show up on another station? I hope so ..... been thinking we would hear something...

  66. 740 with Lana and JP have been part of my mornings, like coffee. I had no idea there was a change until today. So sad, as they will be truly missed... what will I do now, that new guy, of my God, his voice is so annoying! What a mistake -they were the best and the only news I trusted..

    ReplyDelete
  67. It is a very sad thing that this has happened. I hope they land somewhere local and that we can all listen to them on ANOTHER non CC station.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Lana and JP used to be my wake up call for many many years.
I went out of town for 2 weeks and when I came back, they are gone with no trace.
Very good people, I miss them and hope they come back to some other station

    ReplyDelete
  69. I turned on KTRH for the 1st time in a month this morning and it was HORRIBLE!!!!

F&*$ Ktrh, goodbye J.P. Pritchard and Lana Hughes We all will miss you!

    ReplyDelete
  70. It's a shame to lose 2 great newscasters like Lana Hughes and JP Pritchard in the morning. My radio was always set to 740 on the way to work. Now I will be finding a new radio station to listen to every morning.
Lana and JP - find a new station to broadcast on and I will be one of your best listeners and supporters.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I miss them too. Seems like such a simple thing...broadcast the NEWS of the day. They did such a great job of it. Looking for a new station.

    ReplyDelete
  72. My family will miss Lana and JP. I want to wake up and here the news not someone's opinion about the news. Don't like the new guy so we listen to 700AM all day long. Its a good station, you should try it!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I had wondered what happened to the most dynamic, entertaining, and most importantly, best news delivering team in the state.

I hope what I have heard about JP and Lana's dismissal are untrue. If not, I hope Clear Channel's management realizes they clearly do not understand how to treat their employees and how these actions will permanently affect their reputation with the Houston consumer base.

Please also realize that you cannot replace JP and Lana with Matt Patrick. Nothing personal against him, but his voice is terribly whiny and his doltish questions to guests leave listeners shaking their heads.

If Mr. Patrick remains on in the mornings, I WILL NOT be listening to 740 KTRH.

Kudos to Michael Berry and the other entertaining talk show hosts, though.

  74. Lana and J.P. gone, 740 has been gone from my radio buttons ever since. I depended on those two. They were a priceless asset to your radio station and you threw them away!

  75. It's not the same, but I've switched to 650 AM in the morning. It has a national perspective, somewhat right leaning, but balanced by CBS news and commentary. Much easier on the ear than the right winged wingnut Matt Patrick.

  76. I just want the news and JP and Lana did that. I dont want some small talk garbage that Matt is dishing out. I want the news in the morning while sitting in traffic. Bring them back please...

  77. I will cease to listen to KTRH. I prefer getting news/weather than listening to a bunch of right wing lunatics discussing politics all day! Plus CC just showed what a classless act they really are. Good luck JP and Lana

  78. Patrick is a good guy but I want to hear news in the morning on my way to work not another talk radio station!!

Bring back Lana and JP... NOW!!!

  79. I am not a fan of Matt Patrick. Who is he to come and comment about Houston and Texas and our politics. Get him out of here. He's from Ohio for goodness sakes. I want JP and Lana back now also!

  80. 740 AM is just not the same without Lana and JP! Whoever the management is at the station needs to be fired. I guess 740 and 950 will become 'all Michael Berry' all-the-time now... and I've been on Michael Berry burn out for a couple of years. I'm going to migrate up the dial to NewsTalk 1070 AM more often now.

  81. I consider myself conservative and I can't stand this stupid "NewsTalk" format in the a.m. Who wants an opinion that early? Lana and JP were a morning staple. I listen to NPR now, but it doesn't have the local stuff. Bad decision KTRH and CC! Next thing you know you'll want to ditch Milo! Good thing he doesn't work for you! The Astros are the only reason to tune in to KTRH now...

  82. Bring them back or I am gone. Just sent a comment to the operations manager.

  83. I have to agree with a lot of people. I left for about a week and came back to a new guy. I was not sure what happened?
I have tried to listen to the new guy but its not working. I find myself changing the station. I just can't listen to him all morning. It's just to much. I miss the old news cast.

  84. Each morning I switched between 740 and Fox News on XM. Then one morning this guy named Matt or Max - couldn't really decipher what they were stating was on 740 and no Lana and no JP!!

I listen to quite a bit of conservative talk and listened to only 740 for the news for over 10 years. Agree with 99.9% of the rest of the comments above. I don't like the morning format anymore and I miss JP and Lana. What a stupid move.

740 has been erased from my favs...

  85. Wow I can't believe it. This is why our country is going to hell. There is no loyalty at all to workers. How can workers to have loyalty to employers.

  86. Please write to the station online, and/or Clear Channel. It's important to begin standing up to this kind of ridiculous manipulation. These are great comments--send them on.

  87. Matt Patrick is a no-talent carpetbagging hack. He is about as unentertaining as it gets, and he has no insight into local politics. Where the hell do I go to hear news in the morning? All I want is news - no morning zoo crap, no music, no asshead "talk radio" hosts, just NEWS

  88. I guess Radio One saw all of your complaints here and the company is starting a 24 hour radio news station at 92.1 KROI. READ MORE HERE: http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2011/10/houston-getting-news-92-fm-24-hour.html

  89. Matt Patrick's BS listener polls are just lame. He's a muckraker, a troublemaker, stirring up hate because he's not clever enough to initiate some intelligent discussion. I really miss hearing the news by J.P. and Lana.

  90. Still miss Lana & JP. Of course one is cheaper than two and talk is cheap! Personal opinion- I still miss the news and this guy might be great in the afternoon and at night, but in the morning I'm interested in news, local-state-national.

  91. J.P., Lana, Mike B.(Craig R., sorry I'm not a sports fan, but always enjoyed listening to a sportscaster that can talk on subjects other that sports. Welcome home):
As a security officer, it's very hard to 'WOW' me. You were always there for me. But when I woke up one morning and you weren't there, I somehow new C.C. was behind it. Just can't listen to the current KTRH A.M. slot.
Just last night, I saw the TV ad for 92FM. FYI; I am officially WOW'd !!!!! 10 buttons on My radio. 5 buttons on 92FM.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

  92. J.P & Lana are on 92.1 FM in Houston I don't listen to 740 any more. I want news on my 4:30 am morning drive not a political talk show.
